FC: Crazy Adventures with Grandma Mary Ann
A partially true story based on somewhat true events.
You never know what to expect! | Look out World! | The Leeper Clan
It all started one day at the Omaha Zoo. Janet posed a question. She asked, "What would you do? Suppose you could travel either near or very far. You could go anywhere using plane, ship or car. Go ahead, dream big; let your decision be rash. Money is no object; don't worry about the cash."
But what Grandma Mary Ann said even woke Raymond from his snooze. | Now most people answered with "Hawaii!" or "A cruise!"
"You serious, Clark?" | "I'd load the whole family into the back of Rodney's truck. We'd all sit on folding chairs and cross our fingers for good luck. Where would we go? I don't know, who cares? Perhaps to the Northeast coast...maybe Delaware!"
"I say we do it!" yelled Tyler. "I don't see why not! I say we live to the full this one life that we've got!"
And we're off! | So we all piled in, tall ones in back, babies on laps. Moms started to whisper, "This doesn't seem safe"..."I know, I agree.." "But I guess with Rodney driving, how bad could it be?"
We have no idea what we are doing. | Insanity | We were off like a shot - we roared out of sight. We traveled all day and all through the night. At first it was great. We talked, laughed and ate. | But after awhile we began to grow tired. Some decided to rest and others drank coffee 'til wired.
Soon the conversation sounded mostly like babble, So, as you might guess, Grandma shouted, "How 'bout some Scrabble?!""
Meanwhile, though we were blissfully unaware, a freak summer snow storm hit the state of Delaware. The wind and the ice whipped us left and then right; and try as we might we could not hold on tight.
What all happened just then no one can say but some even claim they lost their hair on that day. | Grandma threw on her helmet as we flipped upside down, Some hit the ceiling others slid on the ground.
The snow was so deep they closed all the roads. "You must get off at once," was all we were told.
So Rodney pulled to the side in a snow-covered ditch. Then he turned off the truck and smiled, "Who wants to play Pitch?"
Well the snow eventually stopped and we finally made it home Many bones were creaking and I think I heard some moans. Grandma leaped off the truck then turned to us and beamed, "Well tell me what you think! Was it everything you dreamed?" The Grandkids smiled quietly, trying to be polite. But Madison jumped up and down and squealed with delight.
"I thought this trip was crazy and I had lots of fun. Please, please Grandma can we take another one?" | "Alright then! it's settled!" We all heard Grandma cheer. "It's National Leeper Vacation - this time every year!"
