FC: GRAND CANYON 2012 Our Mind Boggling Journey Into The Center Of The Earth...
1: On June 8th at 5:45am we descended into the Grand Canyon via the Bright Angel trail located on the South Rim. Our destination was Bright Angel Campground, 9.5 miles down. At 6.5 miles Sheila, reluctantly, ask that we turn back. She was afraid that she would not be able to make the trek back out the next morning. I had no choice but to assure her that it was okay and that we would back track 2 miles to Indian Garden Campground. I took her back pack and back track we went. We arrived at Indian Garden Campground, ate, rested, and then decided to hike out to Plateau Point to view the Colorado River. We did so and returned to camp to sleep. The next morning we began our 4.5 mile hike up and out of earth's greatest canyon, eager to capture some of the sights we witnessed coming down. There were deer, raven, chipmunks, squirrels, lizards, vultures, condors, thousand foot walls, endless switch backs, endless caverns, shades of rock from tan to black and all the reds in between. A canvas painted by Mother Nature has no equal... THE GRAND CANYON

26: When we finally reached the South Rim, we dropped to the ground in exhaustion. We then walked to our hotel, the Maswik Lodge and ate as we never ate before.....fruit and yogurt never tasted so good. But once we filled our tummies and settled down in a comfy bed, the awesomeness was amazing! We did it......... WE HIKED THE GRAND CANYON! George's Thoughts: "I can't articulate what I saw and just how these sights affected my emotions, nor can I convey to you the impact that this experience had on both my wife and I." Sheila's Thoughts:"The canyon is amazing. It demands respect. This time I bow down my head. Whether we reached our goal or not, we did it together and it was awesome!"
