Grand Tetons June 2011 - Page Text Content

BC: 2011

FC: Grand Tetons June 2011

Of course we had to get some ice cream while we were there and then back to the hotel for some swimming. | After a long day of driving we made it to Rapid City, SD and visited Mount Rushmore

Getting Back To Nature | "The mountains are calling and we must go"

Always a New Adventure | Going over the southern route of the Big Horns. We learned not to stop to look at turkeys when a semi is following you.

Our first good glimpse of the mountains - not a bad place to stop for road construction

Our first hike was to Phelps Lake. We followed a stream up and saw the one and only bear of the trip on the way down. It was a 2.9 mile round trip with snowball fights and hiding under trees from sleet/hail. | Let's go hike!

Chapel of the Transfiguration. I wonder how anyone paid attention to the pastor with that view.

First moose sighting ever for Nettie, Karlee & Sierra. There would be a dozen more before the trip ended. We all were just a little excited.

One day we hiked along String and Leigh Lakes, which was about 2 miles one way. It was a cooler day with clouds but still a beautiful hike. By the time we got back to the car and loaded we were warned there was a big storm coming. So we went to visit the Moose Junction visitor center.

Our home away from home - Wind River #3 at Jackson Hole Ski Resort

What a beautiful day. First we took the ferry across Jenny Lake and then we hiked up a 1/2 mile to Hidden Falls. By the time we got to the falls there was quite a bit of snow and it was quite slippery. The falls was stunning with all the snow melt going on.

Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves

The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope | Snake River, Oxbow Bend Grand Tetons

Firestone River in Yellowstone National Park

We took a day trip up to Yellowstone so Sierra could see Old Faithful for the 1st time and they both could get their Jr. Ranger badges.

We also did the 1/2 mile walk around Midway Geyser Basin - Yellowstone's largest hot spring.

 Nature Lovin' Girls

I am proud to be a National Parks Jr. Ranger. I promise to appreciate, respect and protect all National Parks. I also promise to continue learning about landscape, plants, animals and history of these special places. I will share what I learned with my friends and family. | Jr. Rangers

I watch Your wonders fill the sky. Over the mountains reaching high. The same majesty fills my life. I stand in awe. Blessed to have a family that loves to get out and explore!

Majesty! | Everybody needs beauty...places to play in and pray in where nature may heal and cheer and give strength to the body and soul alike

The girls really wanted to take the tram up to the top of Rendezvous Mountain - so we did. It took us up 4,139 vertical feet in 15 minutes and we arrived to a winter wonderland.

Pictures just cannot capture the true beauty of this place.

 Wildlife

“I see my path, but I don't know where it leads. Not knowing where I'm going is what inspires me to travel it.” | Life is Good!

Life is either a great adventure or nothing. | Family

We didn't spend much time in the town of Jackson - except to get a pic' in town square and to do some souvenir shopping.

The trip out gave us a few last beautiful glimpses of the mountains. We had such an incredible time in the Tetons. Their beauty is unbelievable. We will definitely be back to explore them more in the years to come.
