FC: Honeymoon in Yosemite
FUN CAMPING IN OUR RV | What an amazing place! | April 15, 2012 to April 20, 2012 | Nick & Nell's Honeymoon Adventures in Yosemite National Park
Nick bird watching | Mo-masan and little Anne | Coming in from Curry Village | Our Campsite
Heading back to camp | Canopy of redwoods | Nick's daily morning commute to Pete's Coffee in Curry village with Pepper
Tree that was born around 600 AD | Bridge near our campsite | Nick pointing to when Columbus supposedly discovered America. | Monday April 16th
Internet @ Curry Village | Valley floor | We woke up to a beautiful first full day in Yosemite. We spent the day with Pepper exploring the valley floor figuring out the lay of the land, and deciding the trails that we wanted to hike. | View of half dome from curry village
Trail head beginning at Mirror lake, it was a bummer that Pepper couldn't go adventuring with us further than the paved streets and pathways. | On Monday evening we took a walk up to Mirror Lake.
 Mirror Lake
Yosemite Falls Trail On Tuesday after we went for a walk with Pepper on the Valley floor we decided to head up to the top of Yosemite Falls. The sixth tallest waterfall in the world! It was a 3.5 mile hike that climbs from 3,966 feet to 6,526 feet--A steep climb of a total of 2560 feet consisting of switchback after grueling switchback.
On our way up we stopped at the first overlook to take a picture.
Our First view of the falls from the trail.
The top of lower Yosemite falls | We had reached the gorgeous half way point in the hike, but still had a long tough hike to the top of the upper falls ahead.
 The top of Yosemite Falls
The hike to the upper falls was really misty and refreshing in some spots. It was tough to carry the extra pounds up the steep incline and have enough oxygen at 21 weeks pregnant... ...but it was well worth the extra effort :) | We're almost there... only 0.2 miles of easy terrain to the lookout on the opposite page
*The next day we found a sculpture of the Yosemite Falls hike on the way to the lower falls and took a few pictures of it.
We were exhausted on the way down but we're still able to enjoy the awe inspiring vistas. We stopped to take one last picture of the upper falls, and on Columbia Rock to enjoy the View.
View of Half-Dome from Columbia Rock
On Wednesday we decided to take a long walk with Pepper from our campground to the bottom of the falls that we climbed the day before. On our way we ran into some Yosemite Wildlife. Nick had said that he wanted to see a bear in Yosemite and this was the second one that we came across. The first we saw from one of the Yosemite shuttles so we were unable to get a picture of it. We also ran into some dear on our way, and every other day that we were there.
 Yosemite Wildlife
Look how high we climbed....We were all the way up there yesterday!
 Lower Yosemite Falls Trail
We took a drive around the Valley floor later that afternoon to see El Capitan and the other sights that were too far away to walk to, since I couldn't ride a bike.
 Yosemite Valley
HAPPY ISLES | On Thursday morning we took Pepper for a walk that she could join us on and learned more about the trail we wanted to do the next day, the Mist and John Muir trails that began at the trail head below.
El Capitan | Yosemite falls | Valley floor | Later that afternoon Nick went for a bike ride around the Vally floor and had fun on his bike with his camera., while I went to hang out in Curry Village.
Nick's 360 degree view from a bridge on the valley floor.
Mist Trail | The first leg of the journey to Vernal Falls completes at the footbridge from which we were first able to see this amazing waterfall.
The second leg of the mist trail took us all the way to the bottom of Vernal Falls. It was on this portion of the hike that we learned why it was called the Mist Trail--boy did we get wet climbing up the final set of stairs leading to it! The waterfall was so powerful it was like walking in the rain.
Next we climbed more stairs all the way to the top of Vernal Falls.
Top of Vernal Falls | We found a nice spot to kick back and eat lunch. | WARNING: No lifeguard on duty--over the falls you would go!!
WOW, I'm glad we decided to go just a little bit further. | Next we headed towards the bottom of Nevada Falls.
 Nevada Falls
Vernal Falls | John Muir Trail
Next we headed up the John Muir Trail to loop back around to the footbridge at the bottom of Vernal Falls and ended up on the same trail that we came in on. We had a great view of the back of Half Dome, Vernal Falls. and Yosemite Falls on the way down. It was a beautiful last day in Yosemite.
