15: Glacial lagoon | Jokulsárlón Glacial Lagoon was formed in southeast Iceland by the recession of Breidamerkurjkull glacier, an outlet glacier of Vatnajokull. As the glacier melts, large icebergs break off from the outer edge and float out into the glacial lagoon. After the icebergs have melted enough, they break into smaller pieces that will drift through an outlet river and into the Atlantic Ocean. These smaller icebergs are often washed ashore the black sand beaches by powerful ocean waves, creating a separate, beautiful landscape of its own. | Jokulsárlón
