14: David Hopman took home the Vineman Cup in 2010. He was also the fastest through the Olympic distance Wildflower triathlon. The only one of us to follow a strict training plan, Dave set a standard of consistency the rest of us could model if we should so choose. The diligence with which he trained allowed him to be in a position to push himself to his limits. The picture after his Vineman victory (above) was the result of all the training and that lead him to victory in the 1/2 Ironman. | Following Dave's training lead into the full distance Ironman, we all vigorously tracked our weekly training hours. Monitored our nutrition closer than ever. Tweaked our bikes (or bought new ones). And even came up with a race plan. Finishing was the goal. Training with the diligence needed to give the race everything I could physically withstand was how I defined successes. That's why the picture to the right of me laid out behind Dave in the finisher tent is my favorite. I had absolutely nothing left to give that race. Beating Dave was a sweet bonus. -Michael T. Sisois, Iron Man
