S: Road-trip Plans: Europe 2012.

The Route. | Berny. Paris. Switzerland. Milan. Garda. Verona. Genova. Albenga. South of France. Gorges du Verdon. Jura Region of France.

The Dream. | Home and Back

Main Sites We Want To See: PARIS!!! (As much of. Giverny & Versailles. Disney Paris. Swiss Lakes and Country. Italian Lakes. Verona: Juliet's Balcony, Roman Theatre, Museum... CITY. Milan. Italian Country. Italian-French Riviera. Genova & Largest Acquario. Coast of Sud de France. Gorges du Verdon. Rural France, Wine country. Pas de Calais.

 Paris.

Our time is the Paris region will be spent cramming as much into our few days in the Capital as possible. We'll be staying on the Eurocamp resort at Berny Riviere, outside of the Paris area, but in close proximity. The next few pages will explain what sites in Paris we will (hopefully) cover.

Louvre. Notre Dame. Grand Palais. Arc du Triomphe. Eiffel Tower. Champs Elysee. Food. Seine River. Conciergerie. Sacre Coeur.

Estimate for the day.... 95 euros | PARIS

PARIS | Our long, long day and evening in Paris will be spent seeing many, many sights. The estimated price for the whole day is 95 euros and this includes entrance to Notre Dame ... Lift to the top of the Eiffel Tower ... Entrance to the Louvre. The conciergerie is next door to the Notre Dame cathedral and we'll admire from the outside unless time permits entry. We'll start our day at the Notre Dame Cathedral, then onto the Conciergerie, The Louvre and the Grand Palais.

We'll then head for a late lunch (having hopefully picked up a bite to eat in between visits in the morning.) Hopefully, we'll eat by the river, or in Le Jardin de Tuileries. Late afternoon, after lunch, we'll travel to the Eiffel Tower and take our trip to the top via lift. Then, we'll drive along the Champs Elysee, See the Arc de Triomplhe and head to the Sacre-Coeur for the early evening prayers outside. NB - If it's not possible to fit it all in, we have a day on the way home to "finish."

Monet's Gardens, Giverny. Claude Monet noticed the village of Giverny while looking out of a train window. He made up his mind to move there and rented a house and the area surrounding it. In 1890 he had enough money to buy the house and land outright and set out to create the magnificent gardens he wanted to paint. Some of his most famous paintings, such as his water lily and Japanese bridge paintings, were of his garden in Giverny. Monet lived in Giverny from 1883 until his death in 1926. He and many members of his family are interred in the village cemetery. | 8 euros Free Child.

Versailles Palace, Gardens & Marie Antoinette's Estate. Versailles Palace is a leisurely afternoon trip. Because of Cayden's age, touring inside the palace isn't a possibility so we will be walking around the gardens, viewing the palace and will be able to see Marie Antoinette's "retreat" instead. The court of Versailles was the center of political power in France from 1682, when Louis XIV moved from Paris, until the royal family was forced to return to the capital in October 1789 after the beginning of the French Revolution. Versailles is therefore famous not only as a building, but as a symbol of the system of absolute monarchy of the Ancien Régime. | 40 euros

Easily reached from Calais or Paris, this parc is beautifully situated in the Aisne valley beside a gently flowing river. Ideal for children thanks to a special parkland play area, it also has four lovely pools, including one with a retractable roof, one with a waterslide as well as a new outdoor pool. There is also a beauty therapy centre and gym, so you can treat yourself to some of the many services on offer from qualified professionals. The parc’s 3 lakes are also ideal for a spot of fishing and the nearby forest of Compigne make for delightful walking. If you’re a budding golfer, the nearby course offers reduced green fees to Eurocamp customers. Paris is just a short drive and there are coach trips available on the parc. Plus, with Disneyland® Resort Paris only 90km away, there really is something for everyone! | BASE

Basel, Switzerland. | There are plenty of excellent ways to cool off in the summer and numerous visitors to Basel choose to relax onboard a boat trip along the River Rhine, enjoying the views and the gentle breezes.

Staying in Switzerland for one evening only (unless we especially love it!) We'll be arriving late on following a lengthy drive from Berny and an afternoon meandering around Basel. Where we stay will depend on availability with Eurocamp. After a good sleep, a walk around the park for breakfast and leisure time the next morning, re-fueling, re-charging the electricals, and collecting mass amounts of junk food...we'll embark on an oh-so-scenic drive to Italia.

Milan, Italy. | Piazza Duomo in Milan will be our opportunity to visit the duomo in Milan during the afternoon, climb to the rooftop and our chance to step into Italy for the first time and sample the food... Milan is our official resting spot en route to our base in the Garda area

There are plenty of sites located around the lake for us to choose from. This will be our base for at least 3 nights. During which time we'll see Verona, Garda and Galleria Ferrari, Modena.. | Garda

Verona | The Verona Card can be used at: - Arena di Verona; - Lamberti Tower; - Juliet's House; - Juliet's tomb, Frescoes Museum "G.B. Cavalcaselle"; - Roman Theatre and Archaeological Museum; - Maffei Lapidary Musem; - Museum of Castelvecchio; - Basilica of S. Zeno; - Saint Lawrence church; - Saint Anastasia church; - Dome Complex; - Saint Fermo church; - Museum of the vintage Radio; - Natural History Museum. | A day in Verona: Juliet's Balcony, Roman Theatre, Shopping, Eating and waking around a beautiful City. | 10 Euro each.

Europe's Largest Aquarium, Genova. | Porto Antico is Europe's largest aquarium. Its 70 tanks housing sea creatures from all the world's major habitats, including the world's biggest reconstruction of a Caribbean coral reef, complete with moray eels, turtles and angelfish. Thee whole affair boasts a fashionably ecology-conscious slant and excellent background information (delivered in Italian and English). The larger beasts include - grey sharks, dolphins, seals and an enclosure containing a group of Humboldt penguins. | 16 euro each

ALBENGA, ITALY. This will be our base for at least 2 nights. We'll arrive here late on in the evening, after travelling from Garda, then Genova. There is plenty going on at the site, beaches nearby for some cheap fun, but also a waterpark that we can go to if we wish but the main focus is rest, rest, rest as after this site, we're back into France for an action packed couple of days at the Verdon National Park... including Adam's special Christmas Present Surprise. | C’era Una Volta is a top quality parc enjoying a spectacular location and offering a wide range of amenities. The most striking thing about C’era Una Volta is undoubtedly its matchless position, set as it is amidst the undulating hills that form the backdrop to the Riviera’s lovely coastline. The steeply terraced hillside pitches feature an abundance of colourful wild flowers that help to make the parc as unspoilt as it is spectacular. There is also a delightful café with live music, dancing and nightly open-air discos in high season. And plenty to do by day too, with a choice of pools, tennis, glorious walks, or the parc’s own jogging circuit just some of the activities on offer. Just 8km from the parc itself, there is a private beach for which a small charge is made, and you will also find medieval Albenga and many unspoilt mountain villages close by.

Nice | We'll spend the day in Nice after we depart Albenga, Italy on our way to our next base, in the area of the Verdon National Park.

Outstandingly beautiful, lots of activities going on, big surprise for Adam. Great part of the Holiday for Bella and all of us. Quiet, but definitely not peaceful. Our base will be located as close to these Gorges as possible. I anticipate that we will spend 2 nights here and 2 whole days before moving along. We'll arrive later on in the day after having stopped at Nice | Gorges Du Verdon.

Jura Region, France. | Our last few days will be spent in one of the beautiful Eurocamp sites in the Jura region of France. With a nice site and plenty to do in the region, we'll have a nice, relaxed, fun few days to top off our holiday. TouroParc is a must, with white tigers, hippos and 800 other species of animals. 43 Euros altogether. Cirque de Baume and the waterfalls are a site of natural beauty and an opportunity for excellent photographs.

Dino Zoo is another fun filled day with lots of child-friendly amusements and entertainment. The price for here is 27 Euros. In this region we should be entertained, relaxed, enjoy some of the best scenery in France, eat the best food in France and all in all finish the trip off nicely. On the final night, after checking out and enjoying some more time in the area, we'll head for Calais.
