Ghana is rich in gold and oil. Its initial growth was fueled by the slave trade where Europeans established castles and forts along the coast, trading guns and ammunition, etc with chiefs for slaves. The chiefs didn't know their own people would be treated so inhumanely, as Africans treated their slaves more as junior family members and servants. Ghana was occupied by Danish, Portuguese, and lastly British, gaining its independence from Great Britain. The Asante descendants are in the Northern area, and the Fante along the coast. Today, the official language is English and the native language is Twi /tree/. Twi is the language of the Akan people, who are dominant in the area.
