2: Keukenhof, also known as the Garden of Europe, is situated near Lisse, Netherlands, and is the world's largest flower garden. There are 7,000,000 (seven million) flower bulbs are planted annually in the park, which covers an area of 32 hectares. | Keukenhof is open annually from the last week in March to mid-May. The best time to view the tulips is around mid-April, depending on the weather.

4: History Keukenhof is situated on a 15th century hunting area. It was also a source of herbs for Jacqueline, Countess of Hainaut's castle, which is the source of the name Kuekenhof. The garden was established in 1949 by the then-mayor of Lisse.

8: In 1949, when the garden was established, then the idea of Keukenhof garden was to present a flower exhibit where growers from all over the Netherlands and Europe could show off their hybrids – and help the Netherlands export industry (it is the world's largest exporter of flowers). Keukenhof has been the world's largest flower garden for over fifty years.

9: Every year is a new theme and that makes every year special.

10: In 2011, Keukenhof will bring its first spring greetings to Germany. | The international flower exhibition has chosen ‘Germany: Land of Poets and Philosophers’ as its central theme for next year. | Keukenhof theme of 2011 | This is not just a tribute to our most important export market for bulbs and flowers, but also to our many tens of thousands of visitors from Germany.

11: Statistically speaking, Germany is the largest individual country of origin of the approximately 800,000 visitors welcomed to Keukenhof each year. Around 20% of these come from the east

12: The flower parade The bulb growing area’s Flower parade follows a forty kilometers route from Noordwijk to Haarlem and passes Keukenhof in the afternoon, over the ‘Keukenhof Corso Boulevard’ [Parade Boulevard]. This parade is called the ‘face of Spring’ for very good reason and is the most famous parade in the Netherlands. The flower parade is free of charge

13: These big tulips are made of thousands of little tulips.
