Our trip to Italy started with a simple conversation and became a once-in-a-lifetime experience. | We began our trip in Rome. We strolled through piazzas and visited the Coliseum, the Pantheon, and the Vatican. | Just as we were beginning to master the Rome subway, we packed up and went to Assisi, which could be one of the most beautiful places in the world. | After a short stay in Assisi, it was off to Florence. Climbing 414 stairs to the top of Giotto's Bell Tower was exhausting, but nothing gelato couldn't fix. | We went on a day trip to Pisa and spent the evening at Piazzale Michaelangelo overlooking Florence. | We finished by relaxing on the beach in Cinque Terre. Amazing views, beautiful sunsets, and delicious wine were the perfect end to our trip. | La Bella Italia

One of the special things about Italy is, no matter where you are, you are always walking in history's footsteps. As you see original works by Michaelangelo in the Sistine Chapel or walk through the Coliseum, it's hard not to imagine yourself in that time period.
Roman landscapes had historical and architectural surprises around every corner.
espresso | Sometimes you just get a craving for some good American coffee. Luckily, there is always a McDonald's nearby.
Small stone-paved streets leading to fantastic views of the valley below, Assisi is a city only comparable to itself.
 Look at the views!
Though our stay in Assisi was brief, it was surely memorable. We got a VIP tour of Basilica di San Francesco followed by a great dinner under the moonlight. Just don't ask for ketchup on your bistecca, right Rachel?

The Hike | Via Dell'Amore is a beautiful seaside trail connecting Manarola and Riomaggiore.
Even after all the walking, subway tranfers, and hectic train schedules, Dad was still smiling.
We couldn't have been in a better apartment above the city of Vernazza.
Enjoying gelato, meeting strangers, walking along coastlines, sleeping on trains, going to beaches, eating authentic foods, learning transportation systems, drinking delicious wines. Our Italy trip was a great experience. With a simple coin over the shoulder into the Trevi Fountain, we're destined to return.
