FC: Our London and Paris Adventure February 2002
1: Ben and Nancy Cooper Stigler, OK | Dear Family and Friends, Got a really good deal on tickets to Europe, so here we go again! We started in London and are having a great time! Love, Ben and Nancy Cooper | To Friends and Family in the USA
2: We took a Shakespeare London City Walk.
3: We visited the Tower of London, a 900 year | The Tower of London | We visited the Tower of London, a 900 year old castle where the Crown Jewels are kept. For most of it's history, it served as a prison.
4: We watched the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace.
5: We attendted services at Bloomsbury Baptist Church | Trafalgar Square, which commemorates the British naval victory over Napoleon

15: Harrod's Department Store, London | Memorial to Princess Diana
16: We visited St. Margaret Patten's Church, hoping to find the graves of some of my Goodwin ancestors. Unfortunately, the church was destroyed in the Great Fire of 1666. The present church was built in 1685 and was designed by Christopher Wren.
17: We didn't find the graves of ancestors, but we did meet a very nice Christian from Cyprus.

19: I had noticed the young lady above while we were waiting to board our plane to London in St. Louis, MO. Then she stopped me outside the theatre to ask directions! She was visiting her fiance, who was attending Oxford University. We saw them again after the play on the Tube. Small world! | We attended a performance of Phantom of the Opera
20: Farewell to London.... Waiting in Waterloo Station to board the Eurostar, which travels up to 186 mph through the "Chunnel" to Paris | Ben relaxing and reading the newspaper during our ride aboard the Eurostar to Paris. Ben tried to get me to use the restroom on the train, but I said, "I'll wait until we get to Paris, train bathrooms are so small and everything...." I would live to regret that......
21: When we arrived at Gare du Nord in Paris, my first stop was the restroom, which I was horrified to learn was a pay toilet! And we had no Euros, the brand new currency! | In Paris, we stayed at the Acacias St. Germain, which had a tiny elevator,a winding staircase, and a bidet in the bathroom! | No problem, I thought, we'll just find an ATM. By the way, how DO you say "ATM" in French?? After some time, we finally found one and got some cash, only to find that the attendant could not make change for a $20! The situation was getting critical, but when the attendant saw that I was about to cry, she took pity on me and made change out of her own purse. Close call!

30: Notre Dame de Paris It was started in 1163 and took 170 years to build.
31: The Chancel Screen, part of which is shown to the right, told Bible stories in pictures for the masses who were mostly illiterate.

39: This shopping spree could have been a disaster. I was looking for souvenirs and had walked to the next store, when I realized I had accidentally carried a bag out of the previous shop on my arm. I quickly returned it, luckily unnoticed. How do you say, "Can I call my lawyer?" in French?
40: Farewell to Paris! Our European Adventure is coming to an end!
