BC: You don't choose your family. They are God's gift to you, as you are to them. -Desmond Tutu May our home be filled with the love and laughter that our families have showed us throughout the years.
FC: May friends, family, and happiness always be found here.
"A house is made with walls and beams. A home is made with love and dreams." Author Unknown
We wraped our valuables in bubble wrap and left Blacksburg. | Somehow Colleen was able to find us 350 ft of bubble wrap in Harrisonburg, VA
We loaded up a 24 foot truck (let's be honest, it was mostly Kyle loading) and headed North to PA. If not for the skillful packing of my Dad and Julie we might have had to leave some stuff behind.
I'm sure Eric and Colleen's neighbors had a field day with this. It looked like a traveling circus act unloaded in their garage. What nice parents!
Needless to say, Colleen had to park outside for a few weeks.
The master bathroom was really the selling point for me. :) | On day 2 of the house search we found 35 Vicki Circle. AKA: Home Sweet Home
The master bedroom is of good size (and it's attached to a beautiful bathroom) but it just needed our touch.
We agreed that the first thing to go would be the blue sink top and curtain rod and then the guest bathroom needed a good cleaning.
We dubbed bedroom #2 the guest bedroom immediately. Though you probably wouldn't want to stay there just yet.
This room had Kyle thinking blue and white :) | The room with 2 windows soon came to be called the computer room.
The kitchen had wallpaper around the cabinets but none on the back wall. This would prove to be an interesting renovation.
Kyle loved the size of the livingroom and was already | thinking of where to put his surround sound speakers.
We thought the dining room was cute but could live without the chandelier.
The previous owners were smokers and left their mark ALL OVER the house. So we painted and scrubbed from top to bottom.
Colleen and Karen are the little elves/angels that worked through the day cleaning and putting on first coats while Kyle and I were at work. Bless then both.
The kitchen proved to be more than we expected! We hoped they had an animal that left that fuzz under the fridge.
Improvements (yes, mowing and pulling bushes were big improvements, just ask the neighbors) were made inside and out.
Kyle the plumber, electrician, and builder. | Kyle had many evening projects to work on. He wired our cable, replaced the chandelier, and the ceiling fan I broke. I did try my hand at changing outlets but left the big stuff up to him.
Nick and Melissa came on Saturday to help us move in even though it was rediculously hot. | Before we move on I would like to thank some people who were not pictured but worked very hard on our house. | We couldn't have done it without Corwyn. He and Kyle were the muscles through the one day move.
When we pulled off the wallpaper in the kitchen we found out it was put directly on drywall. Eric spent days fixing the holes I made. | Brent came over and helped his wife put on the first coat of paint in our bedroom and primered the kitchen. And of course allowed me to borrow his wife for a couple of weeks. | Kim, Annette and the girls came to help us move in and unpack. Kim and Kyle also power washed the house.
Our bedroom kept pretty much the same set up but we put up some cooler curtains.
A little before and after shot.
Kyle replaced the sink and then transformed the bathroom. | And yes, we did replace the toliet paper.
The Guest Bedroom. | It really took shape after we ragged the walls and put in a TV.
The Blue and White/ Computer Room. | This is the only color in the hosue that Kyle chose without debate and it turned out wonderfully!
Thanks to Eric and all the helpers, the kitchen turned out fabulously.
The television was the first thing to be set up in the house. We had a TV but no furniture. Dad's livingroom furniture looks great in our new place!
It's amazing what a coat of paint | and a new chandelier can do for a place.
The foyer. | Kyle added new closet rods and organizers to our "walk-in" closet.
Though we have moved in, there is still much work to be done. We are currently putting an apoxy on our garage floor.
It's funny to look back and remember that this was only the 5th house we looked at on day 2 of the house search. There is still much work to be done and there are many future renovations on the "wish list" but for now we are home and you are welcome here.
