S: Riviera Maya - Mexico 2011
FC: MEXICO 2011
The Pauley's and Tiefenthaler's return to Mexico. This year we spent a few days on the Riviera Maya.
We stayed at the Grand Sunset Princess Resort. The grounds where lush and filled with statue lined paths.
We stayed in a suite with a small balcony and direct pool access- seven steps down from the balcony into a refreshing pool with a built-in double lounge chair...perfect!
Our suite was nice and spacious. The cleaning staff would leave little surprises in our room.
On Monday I spent my "dream day" at the Tulum Mayan ruins. However, the first 45 minutes I tried not to pass out from heat, dehydration, and maybe too much alcohol from the night before... The history and beauty of this area is spectacular. Tulum is a walled "fort" that overlooks the vibrant Caribbean sea, the views are breath taking.
Roberto was our guide through Tulum. The photos at the right are of the Temple des Fresques- look close and you'll see eyes and mouth. Below is a photo of El Castillo, the highest point at Tulum- known as the "lighthouse".
Mayan pole fliers or "voladores" perform at Tulum.
Everyday we spend time at the beach. So many simple, yet beautiful things to see and find.
Ahhhh...just relaxing the day away. Shelly's way to relax... a full body massage on the beach, with an ocean view.
Prune feet? Maybe too much time in the water? I don't think so!
Night-time activities... not much different than daytime activities...
relaxing, swimming, talking, cocktails, we watched a performance of "Grease"...even had time for moonlight shopping.
The four of us spent part of a day on a huge sailboat called a Catamaya. They served awesome rum punch while we cruised to our destination to snorkel. | Doug is getting to know the captain of the Catamaya before we set sail.
Shelly and I enjoyed some snorkeling, while Doug and John chose to stay on the boat to soak up some sun and test the rum punch.
Catch of the day. | Grilled lobster and steak for lunch!
 Shopping in Playa del Carmen
Our last night in Mexico we had a romantic meal for two. The chocolate dessert was decadent and rich... my kind of chocolate!
