FC: Napa Valley 2010

1: Mother/Daughter Celebration Oct 21 - 24 | Eleven women met in Napa Valley on Thursday, October 21st for a mother/daughter weekend in honor of Jenn's mom's 60th birthday celebration. Jenn, Diana, Mary, Kathy, Carolyn, Sandy, Cheryl, Cathy, Susan, Kelley and April. We arrived in San Francisco, rented two cars and drove an hour to Napa Valley. We stayed in three, 2 bedroom condos at Vino Bello Spa and Resort. It was a lovely resort. Thursday evening we had dinner reservations at Cuvee Napa. Susan and Cathy flew in late Thursday night so they were unable to meet us for dinner. Dinner was fantastic, we had the private wine cellar and enjoyed a few bottles of wine with our excellent dinner. Friday morning we all met in the lobby at 9:00am for our Executive Van. None of us were going to drive after all of our wine and tour tastings. The first VIP wine tasting was at Trefethen Winery. Julie Goodman was our host and she handled our group very well, especially Sandy. We tasted about 10 different wines and after a few cases were purchased we headed for Andretti Winery. We had a private tasting room in one of the old homes at Andretti Winery. Then our host took us to watch the grapes crush. She educated us on "Crush Time" and the steel barrels. No wine was purchased at Andretti, but several bags of snacks. Next stop was V. Sattui Winery. This was more of a touristy winery. They have a fabulous market that we purchased breads, dips, and various items for dinner that night. After our tasting and private tour of the Winery, we went into the large Barrel Room where we had a private luncheon set up. We had a variety of sandwiches, potato salad, and tiramisu for dessert. We had a couple of bottles of wine with our lunch, of course. We had planned to stop at Sterling Winery but were running late, so we went on to Castello di Amerosa, The Castle. The Castle was magnificent. The iron work was all hand made and every piece is different. We arrived back at the hotel at 6:30pm, had dinner in our condo and all went to bed early. Saturday morning, we went separate ways. Cheryl, Cathy, Susan, Jenn and Diana went to Buena Vista Winery, the oldest premium winery in CA. Sandy, Mary, Kathy and Carolyn went shopping at the outlets. Kelley and April went to the Winchester Mansion. Kelley, April and Jenn met in the lobby for martinis about 5:00pm. Everyone else joined shortly afterwards. We headed to our next adventure, the Napa Valley Wine Train. We ate a delicious gourmet dinner in the vintage Dome cars. After dinner we went to another car on the train for dessert. The wine train travels for 2.5 hours from Napa Valley to Sonoma and back. When the wine train returned to Napa, we went back to the resort for packing. Sunday morning we ate breakfast and headed back to the airport for a day of travel. After almost missing our flight in Dallas, we returned home late Sunday evening. It was a fast but fabulous weekend.
