dedicated to Mr.Roland who took me in when i had nowhere to live, and nothing to eat.

it was a late summer day in June, and I had went out to the store. my grandma Carrie had sent me to go, and pick up milk, and bread for our dinner tonight. On my way home i noticed that something was wrong. when i was walking down the sidewalk, and people where giving me weird looks, and one was even crying. so i started to run home, and at that time "i saw one of the guys who where picking my grandmother up in the ambulance." | pg. 13 | entry 1

it was a Saturday afternoon. i was going with my dad to get our names signed up for a welfare check to get free money. he was always being mean to me and hitting me. just yesterday my dad "Lonnie hit me in the chest with his elbow", and he does it constantly. but i hate it when he gets drunk, because he hits me much harder, and sometimes it makes me bleed. | pg. 29 | entry 2

it's a couple months after my grandma Carrie was in the hospital, and she's supposed to get out today. i was waiting for a long time at my grandmothers house for her to be driven home by the hospital. after a few hours the house phone rang. when i picked up the phone it was one of the women at the hospital, and she told me she would be out late tonight. so i went to bed. it was morning and i went to my grandmothers room and she was there. i spent the day with her but the worst thing happened, "grandma Carrie was back in the hospital again" because she broke her hip walking down stairs. | pg. 38 | entry 3

it's the middle of July. my dad Lonnie was still being mean to me, but at least "he always left some money around for food." most of the time i will spend my money on strawberry flavored whiskey. it's the only thing that can make me happy because my dad is always out drinking, and my mother has been dead since i was born. thats one of the reasons why my dad hates me because he thinks that i am th one who killed my mom from child birth. | pg. 41 | entry 4

it's a really boring Saturday afternoon ,and i was waiting around the subway station to get a ride home. i was walking to a Hot dog stand to get a hot dog, and i came to this teenager who was calling me over. i went over to him, and he asked me what my name was, i said my names tippy, but he wouldn't tell me what his name was, because he said that he was wanted in three states. but i was starting to bond with him, because he had so much in common. "i liked him, though, and i didn't even believe that he was wanted in three states." | pg. 100 | entry 5

it's early august, and i am not feeling very well. i went down to the whiskey store, and bought some strawberry flavored whiskey. after i bought it "i went over to the park, and started drinking." after the bottle was gone i started to go home but was too sick. i couldn't even walk home, so i passed out in the middle of the side walk. later i woke up inside of a mans house. he told me to call him Mr. Roland, and i did but i had a major head ache, and Mr.Roland gave me something to help it. | pg. 106 | entry 6

"Mr. Roland seemed nice, and i was really ashamed that he found me in the street" when i was drinking the other day. Mr. Roland helped me so much even when i was drunk, and sick. he said that if i feel like it that i could come over, and see him if i needed someone to talk to. later that night i thought about Mr. Roland, and i decided to talk to my dad Lonnie about him, but Lonnie said that he's probably a loser, and that i should not be around him. | pg. 112 | entry 7

today is the worst day ever. when i woke up this morning i overheard Lonnie talking about doing something bad. "it was something about a bank, and they was talking about holding it up". i was getting scared that Lonnie would try to make me go with him so i hid out back of the apartment so he would not find me. later on i saw Lonnie's friends leave the house, so i went in, and Lonnie was sitting on a chair looking very stressed. over the next day i ended up talking Lonnie out of it. | pg. 157 | entry 8

another really bad day, my dad Lonnie lost his job, and is drinking himself to the point where he fell asleep on someone else's yard. but he made me go to a shop around the corner, and i thought we where just going to pick up some food or something. when i saw him pull out the gun i got real scared. he called me some bad things, and pushed me inside. when the stores clerk went to the back to get something Lonnie went, and grabbed the money out of the cash register, but then the clerk walked out and hit me so hard "i could taste the blood in my mouth", then Lonnie shot the clerk. | pg. 164 | entry 9

after the event that took place yesterday Lonnie was caught by the police. " i write to Lonnie, and he writes me back" he's being held in jail for life because he killed a man. i am living with Mr. Roland and he has been taking care of me very well, much better then Lonnie ever did. i still miss my dad for some reason, but i don't know why. later on the next day i helped the police find Lonnie's buddies, because they where wanted for many robbery crimes. | pg. 226 | entry 10

famous people quotes | "When one door of happiness closes, another opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has been opened for us." -Helen Keller (1880-1968) "Life is what we make it, always has been, always will be." -Grandma Moses (1860-1961) "Most folks are as happy as they make up their minds to be." -Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865)
