FC: Todd and Mary's New York Weekend - August 2011

Friday morning - we arrive in New York and visit Times Square.

Walking towards Soho, we spot a tall building that Superman might have trouble leaping. | We purchased tickets out on the street and made our way to the top of this very famous building.

To the Observation Deck we go - way up above the city... | The views from up here were so beautiful...

The Chrysler Building has an iconic shape. | Just a nice view of the city from above | The original Macy's | Awesome view...

The railing at the top is functional and looks very cool | Walking towards the Flatiron Building, Mary broke her toe on a construction scaffold...

We made a couple of new friends at dinner in Greenwich Village on Friday night. Terry and Emily were very nice, and drove us to get gelato and back to our hotel...

Due to Mary's injury, Todd had to travel to Battery Park and the Statue of Libery alone on Saturday morning. He arranged for the bellhop to deliver a surgical shoe to Mary when it arrived at the pharmacy...

The Statue of Liberty Enlightening the World is so beautiful, so inspiring, and so amazing to see in person

The statue's original torch is on display in the monument at the base... | This replica of the statue's face shows how large and detailed Lady Liberty is...

The statue's foot is huge. This is what the original copper would have looked like. On the facing page are images of the molding process used to hammer the copper into shape.

Standing at the top of the pedestal, with the Manhattan skyline behind me. The Freedom Tower is over my left shoulder.

The Statue of Liberty is a sight to behold - a welcome view for millions of immigrants who entered New York Harbor

Ellis Island was the entry point for immigrants to the USA. The history in this building is fantastic. | This is the processing room where millions waited to enter this nation permanently.

At right - literacy cards that immigrants were required to read in their native language. | At left is a legal hearing room where immigrants could call witnesses on their behalf.

Train schedules | Train routes near Cleveland | Currency exchange

The Freedom Tower is beginning to dominate the skyline of lower Manhattan, where unique architecture abounds

Accomplice: New York was a great way to spend a Saturday evening in New York City | Mary listens intently as the clue is read to the group

What did he say? | Mary took her job very seriously. | Yes, green hats.

Mary reached this clue first, despite her toe injury. | Weird, huh? | Little Italy | Dinner for someone | Scenes from Accomplice: New York

The final act of this fun evening

Sunday - a visit to Trump Tower on the way to church...

Mary looks like she belongs here at Trump Tower. | Above - St. Patrick's Cathedral

We visited Lincoln Center on Sunday afternoon to see War Horse - this is a fantastic play - winner of the Tony Award for Best Play.

How many legs does Mary have? | Somewhere, there is a fountain in these pictures, but it's hard to see...

Mary couldn't jog in Central Park, but we did get to take a stroll...

Mary enjoyed visiting the 5th Avenue Apple Store, and she had just finished reading the book Sarah's Key.

She also recently read a book called Winter Garden, so we thought this theater was cool.

We spotted Kate Gosselin being interviewed for the Today Show | Mary showing off her shoe outside NBC Studios

Mary rested in Rockefeller Plaza | Todd sat for a minute on this famous NYC landmark.

Alas, all good things must come to an end. In this case, the end came much too soon. We will travel back to the Big Apple one day to see more...

Goodbye New York City. Until we meet again...
