FC: The OUTCASTS of POKER FLAT | By: Hannah Moss

1: He was born in Albany, New York. He was schooled up until the age of 13 At the age of 18 he traveled across the county to California. Living in California helped Bret gain his fame. | Bret Harte

2: Bret Harte held many different jobs while in California like: a school teacher, tutor, messenger, clerk, a prospector and a writer/typesetter. | After Bret got married he published many of his famous short stories and books.

3: 1836-1902 | Famous short stories and novels: | "Outcroppings", "The Lost Galleon". "The Luck of Roaring Camp"

4: Mr.Oakhurst is banished from Poker Flat. | Mr.Oakhurst meets other exiles | Uncle Billy leaves the camp and steals their mules. | Mother Shipton starves herself to save Piney and dies. | Tom Simson is sent to Poker Flat for help. He is never heard from again.

5: Mr.Oakhurst's lucky streak ends and he shoots himself. | Mr.Oakhurst abandons the camp in the middle of the night. | Duchess and Piney are found dead by the Poker Flat authorities

6: 5 MAJOR ELEMENTS: | Setting: November 23, 1850 Poker Flat and Sandy Bar Camp. Conflict: man vs. society Poker Flat vs Mr.Oakhurst (the accused) | POV: Third Person Theme: Hypocricy- Members of the town didn't mind sitting down at the poker table. But once they lost they chased him out.

7: Characters: Mr.Oakhurst- generous, professional gamblerand not intimidated by danger. The Duchess-Prostitute Mother Shipton-Prostitute\ Uncle Billy- drunk/ suspected robber Piney Woods and Tom Simson- runaway lovers on their way to Poker Flat to get married.
