New York - New York! An Incredible Gift On a wonderful December day, December 14, 2009 to be exact, Doug and Ilene Sappington gave my sister Marlene, and me, an incredible gift. They treated us to a day in New York! Neither of us had been there before. We were probably like children, most definitely we were tourists! It was a magical day--filled with emotions, sights, sounds, vistas and smells we will forever remember. Thank you Doug and Ilene for your patience and love. Thanks Marly for making it so much fun! This album is dedicated to two of the most loving, thoughtful and generous people I know, Doug and Ilene.

Baltimore Station Bright and Early | We had a three hour ride so we opted for the 'Quiet Car'. Was a good decision. Totally surreal to read the names of each station

Baltimore | First sighting! Marlene and I were excited. | y

 Empire State Building | ES

Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges | From Penn Station we took a true New York Style cab ride to Lower Manhattan. The route took us along the East River and past the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges.

Wall Street and the Financial District dressed in holiday finery.. Wonderful! We had to pinch ourselves... | WALL STREET

'Canyon of Champions', warm muffins, hint of Old Amsterdam, and history galore..... Heaven!

George Washington in New York | Federal Hall where he took the oath as the first President of the United States. | After the war Washington bade an emotional farewell to his officers in a room of the Fraunces Tavern, below.

Trinity Church is dwarfed by the buildings surrounding it. An historic icon of our earliest days as a nation. George Washington worshiped here. A rich heritage.

The name 'Broadway' has it's origins in the broad way that led from the entrance of the Old Fort north the length of Manhattan. It was wide enough for soldiers to practice formations. | Some of these headstones read the 1600's

Rebuilding at Ground Zero | THERE ARE NO WORDS

We didn't try to find words, just soaked in the feelings of pride and humble gratitude. | Sisters and Friends

"Give me your tired, your poor, you huddled masses yearning to breathe free. The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!" | Lady Liberty

From the Empire State Building we hired pedi-cabs to take us to Penn Station. That ride was an unexpected delight! We arrived in time to grab some food, then board the train back to Baltimore. Again we chose the Quiet Car. Ahhhhhh ... except for the noisy restroom door. We were exhausted but thrilled! What a dream day! | Marlene especially loved my hat! | Penn Station
