FC: Our First Disney Trip May 2011

We're On Our Way! | Don't let these happy faces fool you. Traveling with young children is not as pleasant as they say it is. Although, the trip there was a cakewalk compared to the trip back. But, we'll get to that later...

Port Orleans Resort - Riverside | This is the resort we stayed at. We arrived around 3:00 p.m. Unfortunately, our luggages did not. Picture on the left is of the angelic Bishop praying for the safety of our luggages... What an angel...

(From the Disney website) "Disney's Port Orleans Resort – Riverside was inspired by rural Louisiana and is nestled alongside the picturesque Sassagoula River. You'll feel welcomed back to a time and place where everything seems to move a little slower and simple pleasures flourish like magnolia blossoms in the springtime..." blah blah blah blah blah.... The place was nice. Mickey shaped towels? Cool!

First Night - Epcot Center - Let The Magic Begin! | Due to the fact that we paid for seven passes to the parks (and are only staying for seven days), we felt obligated to go to a park even though we've just arrived and are very exhausted from the trip. We figured we can always sleep-in the next day. Yeah right! | Ran into some camera problems the first night. Good thing we got there pretty late (around 8 p.m.) and only had time to walk around and see the night time show, which was spectacular. The show was called "Illuminations: Reflections of Earth". It was held on a large lake with a huge globe and fireworks. The fireworks scared the kids so we had to leave. Got back to the resort around 11:30 and voila; our luggages arrived.

 Day 2 - Downtown Disney! | Day 2 continued....

Day 2 - continued | Day 2 started with breakfast at the resort cafeteria. The "Quick-Service Dining Plan" was included with our package. This plan consists of two quick-service meals, two snacks and two drinks for every member of our party (except for Phoenix). As the kids were too excited to eat, we (the parents) ended up eating most of their food and ours too. Needless to say, we ate too much during this vacation. After breakfast, we decided to take advantage of the free boat ride to Downtown Disney. | Downtown Disney was full of pricey shops and restaurants. The kids' favorite was the Lego Store. That one cost us a bit of cash. Another popular one was the T-Rex Restaurant. It's a dinosaur themed restaurant (duh). Apparently, every 15 minutes there's a meteor shower. We didn't see it as we didn't actually go to the restaurant part. Oh well, gotta save something for next time...

After Downtown Disney, we took the boat back to the resort. | Went swimming in the big pool as it was a very hot day. Wanda went down the slides along with Supie, Logan and Bishop. | After swimming, we took the bus to Disney's Hollywood Studios. We got there pretty late and only had time for a couple of rides and saw a show called "Phantasmic". This show features Mickey as a sorcerer who can control the elements. Very cool! | Day 2 - Hollywood Studios

Day 3 - Magic Kingdom | Day 3 was yet another gorgeous day in Orlando, Florida. Makes one wonder why anyone would live in a place where it's freezing half the year. Oh well, at least we don't get hurricanes in Ottawa. The entire family got on a Buzz Lightyear ride at this park. The ride was one of the kids' favourite as they got to shoot aliens while riding on a spaceship. There was a parade during the day and an electrical parade at night. The Electric parade was cool because it was mostly lights. At the end of the night, we saw the fireworks at the Castle but only while waiting for the bus at the bus stop.

Day 4 was spent at Disney's Hollywood Studios. It was the start of Star Wars Weekend and apparently, George Lucas was there to cut the ribbon. We didn't see him. We did meet Daniel Logan. He played young Boba Fett in the Attack of the Clones movie. Big deal huh? Actually, we kinda felt sorry for him because no one was in line at his booth. So we formed our own line and everyone got an autograph. Neat. | Day 4 - Hollywood Studios Star Wars Weekend

While at Hollywood Studios, we saw the Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular and it was "spectacular"! Lots of explosions and stunts! Unfortunately, the Star Wars ride was all booked up. Apparently, people camped out overnight to get into the park and line up for the ride. Nerds! Turns out, all parks have an area for kids to run around in. At this park, they had the "Honey I Shrunk The Kids" play area. It had giant grass, insects and slides. The kids enjoyed it and we got to sit for a few minutes.

Another beautiful day in Orlando, Florida. After another hearty breakfast at the cafeteria (Quick Service Dining Plan is highly recommended), we decided to spend Day 3 at Animal Kingdom. Animal Kingdom was our (the parents) favorite park. Mainly because they close at 6:00 p.m. It's basically a huge zoo with lots of rides. The highlight of the day was a safari ride. Unfortunately, we ended up sitting in front of a bunch of drunks. Who knew Disney sold alcohol? We didn't. But they had beer kiosks everywhere. Sadly, beer was not included in our Quick Service Dining Plan. Next thing you know, they'll open up a casino. Wouldn't that be cool... | Day 5 - Animal Kingdom

Notice anything missing? No animals! Weird huh? Really though, who wants to see pictures of animals? They're not the ones on vacation.

Day 6 - Return to Magic Kingdom | Disney parks are huge and sometimes it takes a couple of visits to see everything. So, it's back to Magic Kingdom. As we walked in, we saw a Mickey Magic show to our right. We got in line thinking we'll see a magic show. To our surprise, it turned out to be a meet and greet with none other than, Mickey and Minnie. They took our picture and off we went. No magic show :( This time around, we got on the Peter Pan Flight ride, saw a bunch of 3D Movies, got on a boring steamboat ride (at least we sat most of the time) and saw the Philharmagic Interactive Movie. Also saw the parades again. The fireworks were better seen in the park. Saw tinker bell fly from the castle. It was okay... (lame)

Oh yes, last full day at Disney. One final full day to fit in as much fun as we can. This day was the busiest (other than the trip home). Let's see, we talked to Crush from Finding Nemo, got on the Nemo ride, saw a bunch more 3D movies, got on a ride that goes through green houses (boring), and even saw the world famous Captain EO movie. That movie was really funny. It was made in the 80s so people were wearing leg warmers and big hair. Funny. | Day 7 - Final Day - Epcot Centre

Day 7 was also the day Supie and Logan met all the main Disney Characters. The perfect finish to an almost perfect vacation. At least, the weather was perfect.

Day 8 - The Trip Home | This was the worst part of our vacation. Not only was our vacation over but it took us eighteen hours to get home due to the incompetence of the Air Canada rep in Orlando. Oh well, at least we got home in one piece.
