S: Oasis of the Seas
FC: Oasis of the Seas | Oasis of the Seas | June 23 - June 30, 2012
This is a wish come true! Brian wanted to go on the Oasis when he first saw it come out. Leslie and Candy made it possible! | Our Itinerary
Brian's holding a paper Oasis that he made. | It begins on June 23rd. The limousine backs into our driveway and Brian sees it out of the kitchen window. "Is that for us?" He asks. I tell him, "I don't know. Maybe you should go and check it out!" Sure enough, it came to take us to the port! How exciting!
Our first glimpse from the limo | The check in counter | Deck 12 is our line | On the gangplank | Almost on
Here is Brian's room with a nice welcome gift!
We're leaving the port! Everyone came to see us off. They knew where we were because we were the only ones blowing air horns!
Our first night at sea! We met our wait staff at table 348. It was really neat to see Miami from the dining room window. We also saw the broadway musical Hairspray. It was fantastic!
 June 24th
Aimee and Brian each got an airbrushed tattoo. They were supposed to last nine days, but only lasted two!
Lunch at Sorrento's Pizza was the best!
Rock climbing was fun! Daddin thought he would beat Mama but he didn't even come close! She went all the way to the top!
 Formal Night
After looking beautiful for formal night, we went back and changed. Aimee had an 8:45 flow rider lesson. She did awesome!
Our first port, Labadee, Haiti. We ate breakfast at Johnny Rockets. It was so neat to see the mountains from the boat. Haiti was hot!! We were lucky the weather was so beautiful. Daddin went on the zip line while we played in the inflatable water park which was much harder than it looked! I took a kayak tour in the afternoon and met them on the ship afterwards. Haiti was fun! | June 25th
 Waterpark Fun!
 From my kayak
In the evening after dinner, we saw the Oasis of Dreams show at the Aquatheater. It was amazing to watch the divers dive from such a high platform into such a narrow pool. The pool had a platform that raised and lowered so sometimes it was deep and other times it was only an inch of water.
One of Brian's gifts was to make a "Pet at Sea." Brian chose a bear and dressed him up like a captain. When we met the captain of the ship we had him sign the bear's hat!
After making the bear, we walked around the boardwalk and got ice cream. What a fun day we had!
We are now in Falmouth, Jamaica. We ate at Johnny Rocket's again and can't wait to climb Dunn's River Falls! | June 26th
Here we are at Dunn's River. We're excited to climb but Brian's shoes are giving him blisters so we need to get Bandaids first!
After our climb was over the tour took us to a Christopher Columbus outdoor museum. The scenery was beautiful!
After a full day in Jamaica, we ate at the Italian restaurant Giovanni's. It was good! Our stateroom attendant Mark enjoyed making towel animals in the evening. Here are two he made tonight.
Our anniversary! We ate a healthy breakfast in the Solarium. We were excited because we had an appointment at 10:00 to tour the bridge and meet the captain! | June 27th
Here we are in the bridge. Brian's in a chair where you can steer the ship with a joystick! The top middle picture shows where the captain can sit and use the steering wheel. | Here is the main control panel. Notice the center picture-- love the windshield wipers!
Here is the young man that gave us the bridge tour. He wasn't very old, but extremely knowledgeable. | Here is Brian's favorite part of the cruise--meeting the captain! Since he had his Make a Wish shirt underneath, he took his Oasis shirt off and the captain signed it!
Immediately after our tour Shirrelle rushed Brian downstairs to play a song in the talent show that was already in progress. We came in, he played his song and received a medal!
Aimee played in a basketball game for 12 - 14 year olds. She didn't want to do it, but ended up having fun!
Throughout the cruise there were several fund raising events for Make a Wish. We participated in a walk. For a donation, you got a Wishes at Sea T-shirt and walked a mile around the ship's jogging track. We were very happy to be able to participate!
For our anniversary we ate at Chop's Grille. It was the best meal we had on the ship! We really enjoyed our night!
Here is our first look at Cozumel from our ship. Another beautiful day! We ate at Johnny Rockets and then headed out to Paradise Beach. | June 28th
Just off the ship and on our way to Paradise Beach. Look how large the Royal Caribbean is on the side of the ship!
Once you're at Paradise Beach you know how it got its name. It has everything you need for a relaxing day--pool, beach, water park, shops and delicious food!
Brian may have been too small to go on the flow rider, but he got to parasail! | Parasailing
He took his camera up with him. Here are some aerial shots he took.
Relief that everyone made it back on the ground safely. Our boat captain gave them a thumbs up!
Back to the ship after a fun day in Cozumel.
After we got on the ship we got to go on the helipad. It's so large! Aimee and Brian pretended to be on the Titanic while I sang the song.
After the helipad tour Aimee and Brian entered a free throw competition.
Dinner was at Izumi's Japanese Restaurant. Instead of the chef cooking at your table, you cook your own food on a stone that's over 500 degrees.
After dinner we went outside to watch the beautiful Caribbean sunset.
That evening the ship had a $10.00 sale. Brian got two watches and I got a black dress purse. We also saw the show "Come Fly With Me." It was great!
We had guests in our rooms that night again!
June 29th | Our last day! After breakfast we got a tour of the galley. It's an amazing place!
After our galley tour we tried to win the jackpot at Bingo.
 Then we went ice skating!
Aimee and Daddin zip lined on the ship. Aimee was super nervous but so proud of herself when she reached the other side! | AHHH!
 Mini Golf on a ship!
After Ziplining, Aimee did the flow rider and I golfed with Brian.
Our last day by the pool. While Aimee and Brian played in the gameroom, we enjoyed some time at the Solarium.
It's a good thing the seas were calm. There was a refugee boat with people from Cuba trying to gain their freedom. We sent a boat out with food and water for them.
Our last evening on the ship. When we came back to our room to change we found a goodbye gift in Brian's room. For our last dinner, all the chefs came out and sang. It was fun and we were already sad our fabulous vacation was ending!
People We Won't Forget! | Shirrelle was the Adventure Ocean Manager who was in charge of all the Make A Wish activities. She was always there for us and made sure Brian did everything he wanted.
Mark, our stateroom attendant from Jamaica. He always said, "Good morning" even if it was evening. He loved to make towel animals! | John and Millie our dining room wait staff. Millie gave Brian and Aimee a Johnny Rockets pin since she worked there as well. She also worked at the Wipeout Cafe where we ate a lot.
 Our Rooms | Our staterooms 12183 & 12185 | Daddin & Brian's room | Bathroom
Here is our balcony. We had the one with the blue towel and the one to the right of it. | Looking out from the balcony. Right is looking down. Through the glass is the Royal Promenade.
Scenes From the Ship | View from our balcony
Here is the Rising Tide Bar. It is a neat bar that actually rises up to another level and then goes back down again.
Here is the pool area at night.
 Central Park on Deck 8
 Royal Promenade on Deck 5
The directory by our elevator showing all the decks.
Here is a collage of art around the ship. Everything is opulent, from carpets, tiles, paintings, ceilings and even light fixtures.
Departure morning at the port. Brian sees a Carnival ship and is already planning our next voyage!
Because Brian was so small when he went through his treatments for Retinoblastoma, fortunately for him he didn't remember anything about that time. This past December I decided to take him to the clinic where he received his treatment so he could see the place that played such a big part in his life. The nurses enjoyed seeing him and the head nurse told me that she never turned Brian's name in for a Make A Wish since he was so young, but he was eligible and would now submit his name. I told her I didn't feel right about it since Brian was fine now, but she assured me that Make A Wish is for anyone with a life threatening illness, and we went through so much that Brian should be able to do something he wanted. There was no doubt what Brian would do. He had been talking about the Oasis since it came out and since it was so expensive, I told him there was no way we would be able to take a vacation on it. Soon after that clinic visit, Make A Wish called and interviewed us over the phone. About two months later, Leslie and Candy came over to meet Brian and help us with his wish. They brought over some gifts for Brian and we planned our trip! We are so grateful for the Make A Wish organization, and for our wish granters, Leslie and Candy. Without them, this wonderful experience would not have been possible! | The Story
