1: Sunday, May 1 Road trip to Calgary - first stop in Brooks. Our friends Els, Maurice and Brian are coming to Canada! | pronghorn antelopes
2: Monday, May 2 We drove the last little bit to Airdrie, where our friends had to pick up their rental motorhome. We met at Walmart, a great reunion after 3 years! Together we took the 1A to Canmore and continued on the 1 to Banff. OnTunnel Mt campground we camped near a shelter. It was still pretty cold, so it was great for our meals! We also took the bus to town for some shopping :) | Westside campground, Brooks | reunion in Airdrie | Cochrane

8: Tuesday, May 3 We didn't do much sightseeing (they could still do that on their way back to Calgary), but took the Bow Valley Parkway to Lake Louise. We stopped at the Johnston Canyon and hiked on the slippery paths! We even heard a growl at some point - was there a bear?! Then we drove to Lake Louise, it looked like it was still mid-winter there! The campground was also only partly open because of the huge piles of snow. Wow! | sunset on May 2 | elk

18: Wednesday, May 4 Finally blue skies! Perfect timing, as we were going to Jasper on the scenic Icefields Parkway. We stopped at a.o. Bow Lake, Peyto Lake, Saskatchewan Crossing, the Big Bend and Athabasca Falls, but lots of little pullouts weren't available yet (not cleared of snow). We couldn't get close to Bow Lake either, they were still clearing the area :( And at Peyto Lake we had to walk a narrow alternative path in the snow to the viewpoint, but it was worth it! Never seen the Rockies this beautiful!! | Bow Lake

28: Thursday, May 5 We went shopping in Jasper and chilled out on the campground during the day. After supper we took the Maligne Lake Road to Medicine Lake and Maligne Lake. Unfortunately it was still full of snow by the lake and everything was still closed. We didn't see any wildlife either until we got back to Jasper.

34: Friday, May 6 Unfortunately we had to say goodbye to Els, Maurice and Brian already, that was hard! :( We had to get back to Regina, while they went west into BC for a few more days. We got some Dutch groceries in Edmonton, visited Sebastiaan in Sherwood Park and spent the night in Lloydminster, by Mark's house.
