1: SOUTH AFRICA | JOHANNASBURG | ARRIVED 5 MAY 2012 | Today South Africa enjoys a relatively stable mixed economy that draws on its fertile agricultural lands, abundant mineral resources, tourist attractions, and highly evolved intellectual capital. South Africa is multi-ethnic and has diverse cultures and languages. Eleven official languages are recognized in the constitution.

3: “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness... Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one’s lifetime.” – Mark Twain

14: HOME No running water, No electricity. Living conditions are primitive but the village is your home; the community your family.

17: THE ELEPHANT | Said to be the most majestic of all animals, elephants have the largest brain of any mammal which grows with them as they learn. The elephants tusks and trunk are their most unique physical characteristics. Using their trunk an elephant can suck up 4 liters of water at a time or pick up objects that weigh 270 kilograms. Elephants are not just big, strange looking beast, but intelligent and sensitive creatures that experience sadness and pain too.

23: The cheetah achieves by far the fastest land speed of any living animal — between 112 and 75 mph, in short bursts covering distances up to 1,600 ft. The Cheetah has the ability to accelerate from 0 to over 62 mph in three seconds. The cheetah has a unique, well-structured social order. Females live alone, except when they are raising cubs on their own. At eighteen months, the mother leaves the cubs, who then form a sibling group that will stay together for another six months. At about two years, the female siblings leave the group, and the young males remain together for life. | THE CHEETAH

25: The Souther Cross AKA Crux is visible in the southern hemisphere at most any time of year. It is a popular sighting by travelers from the North.. With no easily visible polar star the top and bottom stars of the cross commonly mark south..

29: BIG FIVE | SOUTH AFRICA The Big Five Game is a collection of wildlife that is most popular for tourist on safari but more importantly the most difficult and dangerous of all big game to hunt. The BIG FIVE include the Lion, African Elephant, Cape Buffalo, Leopard, and Rhinoceros.

30: As I watched the sun set over the African savanna for one last time, drawing in the last breathe of warmth from our most faithful star, it was the warmth of a country, of a community, of a new people and of new experiences that continues to blaze inside of me today. "Past experience, if not forgotten, is a guide to the future" - unknown A future which seems yet unknown can sleep peacefully still as I lay track with the experiences of my time. With each step i take, with each tool i carry and with all the strength I can muscle, as i build a future for myself, I give thanks to my family, but, most importantly, to my mother.
