S: California May 2010
BC: Another great vacation May 2010
Gary and Barbara Thompson picked us up to begin our trip to Northern California. We spent the day touring around San Francisco. Gary was a tour guide at one point in his life, so he knew all of the favorite spots to go in San Francisco. We started out with the Golden Gate Bridge, which is simply beaitiful.
The crookedest street in the world -- Lombard Street
We went to the Calaveras Big Trees State Park to see the giant redwood trees. Unfortunately for me, there was snow on the ground there. All I had along were sandals for my feet -- after all, we were going to California! Who needs shoes, right?
You and Gary went zip lining just outside of Sonora.. Barbara and I opted not to do it, but the two of you sure had a good time! | The guy helping you asked if you'd ever done this before. When you told him yes, you did a zip line in Switzerland, he said it was the first time anyone ever told him that in Sonora!
This train depot is where they filmed one of the Back to the Future movies -- it had an old fashioned steam train and everything. We got there too late to go for a ride, b ut it was a neat place to see just the same.
This old town area was right in Sonora -- Brenton actually got married here! It was very quaint and old fashioned, and had fun little shops. We spent some time in an old fashioned candy store here, and managed to purchase a few things!
We spent a day at Yosemite, and this park is definitely something to see. We were there at the height of the waterfall season, and it was spectacular. We took a tour through the park, and even saw a bear!
A trip to San Francisco wouldn't be complete without a trip to the famous Fisherman's Wharf! From the seals on the pier, to the fabulous restaurants and shops, what's not to like? | We had a great meal at Bubba Gump on our last day with Barbara and Gary! Yum!
We decided to take a tour of San Francisco, which turned out to be pretty cool. "We saw some of the same stuff with saw with Barbara and Gary, but we also saw some new things as well. Love this picture of the San Francisco trolley, as well as the beautiful view of the city that we got while on the tour.
 Golden Gate Bridge
The one thing we hadn't seen yet were the victorian homes -- they call the area "postcard lane". Your friend Alissa came to meet us in San Francisco, so I asked her if we could take a drive to try to find this place.. We had a hard time finding a place to park, so we parked in front of someone's driveway.
The person who lived where we parked started beeping, because we were blocking his access, and we all took off running to the car. You and Alissa didn't know that I was tryin to get in the back seat... When I reached for the door to get into the car, Alissa moved forwarded and I was still holding onto the car door. | Unfortunately it ended up with me in the ER for a dislocated shoulder. Leave it to me!
In spite of the brace on my arm, I wanted to ride a cable car. Alissa joined us, after having spent the day with Lindsay while I chilled at the hotel. | I asked the cable car driver if we could hang off of the cable car, and he said everyone but me could try it!
On our way to The Rock
Alcatraz - what an interesting place to see. We signed up for the night time cruise out to The Rock, but it really didn't get dark until we had been there for quite some time.
We did the tour where you purchased headphones and it led you through the different areas of the prison. It was pretty fascinating, but kind of creepy at the same time.
I thought it was kind of cool to go into one of the cells, but you were having none of that!
The views from Alcatraz of San Francisco were quite beautiful.
