FC: Cousin Camp-the Third Year 2011

What a beautiful view! | July 25, 26, 27, 28- This year we went to the YMCA of the Rockies at Snow Mountain Ranch. We enjoyed being together in the beautiful mountains of Colorado.

We got there on a Monday afternoon. After we settled in and had dinner, we decided to choose some of the many offerings of Snow Mountain Ranch. Miniature golf was our first choice. We had the course to ourselves and everyone could play at their own speed.

We also enjoyed a rousing evening of square dancing. The children really seemed to enjoy it and even Juliette got in on the action. It was a great family activity.

The next morning we went to the Rowley Homestead to make ourselves some walking sticks. We picked sticks with "character" and worked hard on sanding and stripping the bark off of them. It was a bit of work to make the poles smooth. Of course, the children loved the idea that they had a stick.

The Rowley Homestead also gave us a chance to look at some old washing machines, haystackers, barns, and homes. The children were fascinated with the ringer washer. They thought it was great fun to crawl up in the loft of the barn until they had to come down. Anjanette and Nate even figured out another use for the walking stick.

After we finished at the homestead, we took a hike up to the waterfalls. It was a 3 mile hike and a beautiful view all the way. We got to try out our walking sticks. We ate our lunch when we got back down and had a competitive cherry spitting contest.

That afternoon we went swimming. In the evening the men went out to play Frisbee Golf and we took the children to check out the climbing wall.

We also checked out the playground. Anjanette and Sarah renewed their knowledge of playing 4 square and tetherball. The kids tried out the tire swing and nets.

Wednesday morning, we decided to try roller skating. The children were very excited to see what they could do. They still had fun, even though, there were many spills and falls. Those wheels sometimes would not stay under your feet.

It isn't as easy as it looks! | Skating at the Roller Rink

We also played the games that were upstairs from the roller rink. The favorite of Wednesday morning, though, were the tricycles. We needed three more trikes, but the children did a great job of sharing and giving rides. It was fun to watch them ride all over the place.

Wednesday afternoon, some of us went to the reservoir to fish and hike. We saw beautiful blue dragonflies at the reservoir. Others went to the center to play a rousing game of Dodge Ball.

Here we are hanging out in the cabin after our dinner. Grandpa doing KP duty and some of the cousins getting ready to go swimming.

What a beautiful setting for a family activity. The flowers were beautiful everywhere. The mountains surrounded us. There were activities galore. But best of all-we had time to spend with each other. Priceless! | Thursday morning we packed up to leave and then went to a story/craft time. Afterwards the families chose something that they wanted to do again. Some chose miniature golfing and others chose the tricycle park again.
