1: Sedona | What a beautiful view! | This trip to Sedona, AZ turned out to be even more amazing than I had ever anticipated. Going into this trip I had my doubts, wondering how I could possibly enjoy a vacation without the ocean? Even with the promise of warm weather I was still very skeptical, but the strong desire to see the Grand Canyon won me over and so my trip began. I ended up completely falling in love with Sedona, ocean or no ocean. I still can't believe how breathtaking the views were in every direction I turned! The Red Rocks over took the dessert, filling any void that was left from missing the ocean. We spend half our days relaxing by the pool and then would venture out to see the cute town of Sedona or exercise by hiking one of the spectacular Red Rock formations. We also went wine tasting and toured 3 different wineries. The first stop was my favorite at Javelina Leap Vineyard. We were able to meet the owners (who were having a very good time “testing” their product) and got an exclusive behind the scenes tour. We also visited the Out of Africa Animal Refuge where I was forced onto stage to overcome my fear of snakes. | Being forced on stage to help hold up part of a Boa Constrictor proved to help me overcome my fears...even if it was only short-term. After the show ended I allowed the snake expert to place the full-grown Boa Constrictor on top of my lap. It was an amazing experience to face such a horrible fear and I now look a little more kindly towards snakes, but I’m still extremely frighten by them. One of the most fascinating facts about the Out of Africa Animal Refuge was that all the wild animals were rescued from homes where the owners could no longer take proper care of the animal as a pet. I can't imagine having a tiger, lion, or bear as a pet! The Boa Constrictor that I held had been rescued from a drug dealer's house. The drug dealer kept the snake in the frame of an old big screen TV and rarely feed it. The poor thing was always kept starving so it would be more vicious and had burn marks from the heat lamp and cigarettes all over its body. The snake also had permanent foggy eyes from all the meth that was smoked in the house. You couldn't help but feel bad for the little guy, even if it was a snake! We also took a day trip for 2 hours (each way) to the Grand Canyon. I was overwhelmed with the beauty and majesty of the Grand Canyon. Neither words nor pictures can describe its splendor. Heidi and I had the privilege of flying as co-pilots on our 1st helicopter ride (ever) inside the Grand Canyon. We literally dropped down into the Grand Canyon as if we were on a roller coaster ride. To have a bird’s eye view of the magnificence Grand Canyon was worth every penny! Here is a peak at our adventure; I can't wait to go back!
