S: Sarah's Singalorean Semester!
BC: DEPARTED | SINGAPORE | 8 DEC 2013 | Sarah's study abroad in Singapore, July-December 2013.
1: SINGAPORE | SINGAPORE | ARRIVED 29 JULY 2013 | is a sovereign city-state and island country in Southeast Asia off the souther tip of the Malaysian Peninsula. It is one of the five busiest ports and very globalized and diversified.
2: I can't believe it! After months of anticipation, my study abroad is beginning. I am off to Singapore... An adventure in Southeast Asia awaits!
4: THE NATIONAL MUSEUM OF SINGAPORE is a museum that goes through the history and the art of Singapore from the 1300s to current day.
6: SINGAPORE NATIONAL DAY is a day to celebrate Singapore's independence from Malaysia, taking place on August 9th with patriotic vibes around the country.
8: THE MERLION | is a mythical creature with the head of a lion and the tail of a fish. It was created by the Tourism Board in the 60s as a logo to represent Singapore. | MARINA BAY | is created from the flow of the Singapore river and is surrounded by the iconic Marina Bay Sands, Merlion and Gardens By the Bay. Marina Bay Sands was finished in 2010, so this area is fairly new. | GARDENS BY THE BAY | is part of Singapore's aim to increase the quality of life by enhancing greenery and flora making a "City in a Garden".
10: BATAM | Indonesia | 1 SEP 2013
11: BATAM is the third busiest entry port to Indonesia next to Bali and Jakarta. Situated so near to Singapore, it is a favorite resort for residents and international tourists in Singapore who wish to get closer to nature.
13: Tioman Island | TIOMAN ISLAND is one of the islands off of the coast of Malaysia. The waters around the island are filled with corals of all shapes and colours and home to a vast diversity of sea creatures, including two species of marine turtle. There are a few excellent beaches on Tioman, and these curves of golden sand are usually tucked away at the edges of villages or fronting one of the many resorts.

15: KUALA LUMPUR is the capital of Malaysia and the most populated city of the country.
17: Kuala Lumpur was a great trip to learn how to travel and get around in a new and foreign city. We went to the Islamic Arts Museum, saw the iconic twin towers, ate local food, went to the Batam Caves, and truly experienced the city.
18: One of the biggest part of Singaporean culture is the food. Some of the iconic foods include- Chicken rice, Satay, Laksa, Nasi Briyani, Roti Prata, Nasi Lemak, and Curry fish head soup. Singaporean food was one of the best parts about Singapore. It was YUM! | SINGAPORE | Big Bun | Chicken Rice | Indian Food

21: Thailand Thailand was an amazing experience. We went to Bangkok, Ayutthya, and Chaing Mai. We went to beautiful temples like Wat Pho, saw elephants, and even took a cooking class. I think one of our favorite things was the street food in Bangkok! It was delicious. | Thailand | 23 Sep. 2013 | I visited Wat Pho, Wat Arun, the Grand Palace, Auyutthya, Wat Mahathat, Wat Ratchaburana, the National Museum, and of course, Chiang Mai.
22: The Thai food was phenomenal.
23: While in Thailand, Yanela and I took a cooking class in Chiang Mai. We learned how to make many dishes, and also got to explore a local market! It was so much fun!
24: BALI, INDONESIA Balinese people follow Hinduism and are really nice! Bali is a popular tourism spot, and I know why, it is beautiful.

26: The trip to Bali with my mom was phenomenal. Can we go back please? | Mom ate street food! Can you believe it?
27: Having mom visit me in Singapore was amazing. I took her to the Aquarium, the Night Safari, the Botanic Gardens, the ArtScience Museum, Little India and much more. It was loads of fun!
29: While at NUS I ran in a 10k and placed 7th in the Open Women's Category! It was awesome to get to run in a race while enjoying my time abroad. | While in Singapore, Sarah Page came to visit for a week. It was loads of fun catching up and showing her around my temporary home!
30: Farewell Singapore, and Southeast Asia..... until next time....
