S: Scharett/Evangelista Alaskan Adventure
BC: DEPARTED | Alaska | 24 June 2012
Alaska | ALASKA | ARRIVED 16 JUNE 2012 | The 49th state in the U.S. Alaska is home to a wide variety of wildlife. The Aurora Borealis can be seen better in the northern regions of Alaska during winter after the sun goes down. | Scharett/ Evangelista Road Trip!
We couldn't believe it!! We were finally going to the place we had been dieing to go for quite some time. So what we had to get up at 3 AM leave the house at 4 AM and be at the airport by 5?! We got this! One big happy sleepy family but we got this. Alaska Here We Come!
Beluga Point Alaska June 17, 2012
Ididaride! Not only did we get to experience the thrill of hopping behind a team of dogs and flying around corners, we got to learn about the dogs and meet the cutest little puppies ever!!
Exit Glacier | Exit glacier is one of the few glaciers in Alaska that you can walk up to and observe up close and personal! It's part of the Harding Ice Field and is slowly receding. We hiked for half of forever, grandma thought she was going to die, and Devin could not stay on his feet. When we were near the glacier itself it felt like the temperature dropped 15 degrees. Everywhere you look is like a postcard or picture from National Geographic.
 Seward | Harbor Cruise | June 2012
The Harbor Cruise was one of the most amazing parts of our trip. Not only did we experience sea sickness and what us South Carolinians call extreme cold, we also got to see views that not many people will see in their lifetime.
Seward Harbor | THE SEWARD HARBOUR was bursting with wildlife when we went out. All everyone was saying was how lucky we would be to see things once we got out on the water but we must be leprechauns because we saw orcas, humpback whales, puffins, porpuses, mountain goats, eagles, and otters. On top of all the excitement Devin called all the animals with his ocarina.
 Harbor Cruise | Alaska
The Cliffs of INSANITY!!! It's Inconceivable
Look he's King of the Golden Nugget!
Just outside Talkeetna we stood on rocks and took pictures of Mt. McKinley. Even though we were miles away from Talkeetna and Talkeetna is 60 miles from Mt. McKinley's summit the mountain looked enormous.
is a super cute little town. The people were friendly, the food was superb, and memories were made that will never be forgotten. "The Slap" occurred at Mountain High Pizza Pie and Emma got some fresh air on the way into town. Sara fell through the evil bridge of doom and a bald eagle flew over head as we stood in awe of Mt. McKinley. | Talkeetna
The Little Susitna also known as the little sue is where Dad tried to give Deseret a heart attack by standing much to close to the huge river. It was just a little pit stop on our way to the next amazing view in Alaska.
Hatcher's Pass Alaska is an abandoned gold mine that we got to explore. Megan tried to throw a snowball through a window at Sara, Devin kept falling in the snow, Slow motion snow angels were made, the girls walked backwards to work on their quads and just like that the Scharett/ Evangelista clan became one with the outdoors.
Hatcher's Pass | The history behind the gold mine and the way they lived in Alaska was interesting, but not nearly as interesting as the company that we had. Grandma and Devin couldn't walk up the side of the mountain because they kept slipping and falling. Much to Sara's chagrin she had the worst wipe out on the way up the mountain when she fell through the snow about three and a half feet. We also saw a chirping marmot who decided to come out of hiding and show off for us.
Thunderbird Falls This was not only a crazy hike but it was also where Grandma saved a little Asian boy from jumping off of the barrier by the falls
After a 5 hour flight to Newark our flight is canceled at 6:30 AM and we had to stay in New Jersey till the following day. Needless to say... We were all exhausted.
 HAHA She's Sleeping!!
New York City | Talk about making the Best out of a Bad Situation! So what we all wanted to be home and we were falling asleep on the tables at the air port. We ended up having the time of our lives in NYC and got to have the Time Square Experience!
Toys R Us!!! The kids couldn't believe their eyes when they walked in the three story child's paradise but as far as we knew it was the coolest place we had ever been in!
 New York City
