1: What is culture? | Culture is "that complex whole which includes knowledge, belief, art, law, morals, custom, and any other capabilities and habits acquired by man as a member of society."
2: What is cultural literacy? | It is defined as the "knowledge of history, contributions, and perspectives of different cultural groups, including one's own group, necessary for understanding of reading, writing, and other media."

8: How can you promote cultural literacy in the classroom? | Lesson Idea # 1 Students will develop a week-long travel plan based on a chosen foreign country in the form of a Power Point presentation, as well as a travel brochure for others to see. Students will use the Internet to gather their information and present it to the class as a slide show.
10: Lesson Idea #2 Each student will read a novel that represents a different culture. Afterwards, students will write a short paper discussing the different cultural characteristics that were represented in the book. Students will be encouraged to use secondary sources to obtain more details about the characteristics. Then, the students will get into groups and talk to each other about the culture.
