Yvonne in Bordeaux - Page Text Content

 Happy birthday, Mama!

 A First Look at Bordeaux

This is me in front of the old mayor's office in Talence. It is in the park near my host mother's house. | In front of the Place de la Bourse in Bordeaux, there is a "water mirror" that sprays mist every few minutes. | A close-up of the fountain at the Place des Quinconces in Bordeaux.

My Host Family | This is Claire, my host sister, and her dog Kaos. In the background is my host mother's brother, Jean-Pierre, and his daughter, Mélanie. Kaos is super cute.

My host mother is named Annie Béné. She works at the Bordeaux port. She's very nice. This was taken when my host mother took me to Saint-Émilion.

The Aquitaine Region | The EAP program organized two field trips for us. For the first field trip, we went to the Basin of Arcachon, where we ate fresh oysters and climbed the Dune of Pyla, the tallest sand dune in Europe. For the second, we went to the former home of Francois Mauriac, who won a Nobel Prize in literature.

I have also taken several day trips while I've been here. On Heritage Day, my host mama took me to Saint-Emilion, a medieval town known for its wine.

Another day trip I took was to the medieval fortress of Carcassonne, about three hours away from Bordeaux by train.

LONDON | I went to visit Vivian in London over my Toussaint break, and it was very enjoyable. Vivian was a great host.

(clockwise starting from the top left) The British Museum, steak and kidney pudding, the Rosetta Stone, Buckingham Palace, St. Katharine's Docks, 10 Downing Street.

(above) Platform 9 3/4; (below) St. Pancras International railway station

During half of my Toussaint break and my Armistice Day weekend, I went to Paris. It was very pretty at night, but also kind of dirty during the day. I liked it a lot though.

 Notre Dame de Paris

The side view of the Notre Dame from across the Seine. I was waiting to meet up with Vivian, but I left the courtyard in front of the cathedral because four people came up to me to ask for money. | These are love locks, which people put on the bridge to symbolize their "everlasting love." It looks pretty cool. Most of them are dumb, but there was a turtle lock that I liked.

Sacré-Coeur Basilica | Vivian and I at the Moulin Rouge | Montmartre

 The Louvre

This was the crowd for the Mona Lisa. I felt like I was at a rock concert.

Pere Lachaise Cemetery | I took pictures with the tombstones of Gerard de Nerval (left) and Honore de Balzac (right), because I have to write ten-page papers on their books this term. Originally, I wanted to show my professor these pictures because it would be funny, but then he turned out to be kind of crazy.

I can't make a scrapbook about France without any pictures of food!

Dear Mama, | November 23, 2011 | Your complaining about not having photos inspired me to make this photobook. It includes pictures from August through November 2011 and spans two countries, France and England. I hope that you enjoyed it. | Yvonne Lin
