Jason and Chapel's Mackinac Island Marriage, and the planning, creating, and celebrating. | "I hope you don't mind that I put down in words How wonderful life is while you're in the world." -Elton John's "Your Song"

The marriage of Chapel Starbuck Taylor to Dr. Jason Paul Olsen Sunday, August 1st, 2010, 5:00pm at Mission Point Resort Mackinac Island, Michigan. Officiated by: Dr. Shannon Jonas Best Man: Kevin Drzakowski Groomsmen: Gregory Delzer and Michael Taylor Maid of Honor: Jacquelyn McShulskis Bridesmaids: Megan Chavez and India Jonas Music Performed by: Warren and Alexander Taylor | After getting engaged on Friday, November 27th we decided to get married on Mackinac Island. We chose this place because we wanted to create more than just a wedding; we wanted a beautiful vacation for our friends and family in a place that is very special to us.

Chapel, the alexandrite stone in your ring signifies many things and one of those things is change—the change that accompanies us in life through our experiences and time and I promise that during these changes I will stand with you always. And one thing that will be constant is love—and I promise to keep this love always and never forget this moment and these feelings and when the skies are clear or they are raining mud, and when hopefully kids and inevitably new dogs and the like come into our lives, I won't just say I'll do anything—I will. I promise to love, to encourage, to make you laugh, to stop you from crying, calm you when the world is spinning and find the sun on the darkest day. All of these things I promise. | Jason, I promise to look for the humor in our days; in our good times and in the bad. I promise to always strive to be the best version of myself with you, and to help you be yours. I promise to remember that you are my best ally, and to always be yours. I promise to love you and be honest with you as your wife, your friend, and your partner, as we continue on this adventure of our life together.

But before we could get to all that, there was a lot of work to do.

Warren and Alex played the music for the wedding and they weren't able to practice together until they got to the island so there was some frenzied practice time. Chapel and Jason folded 1000 origami cranes and shipped them to Paula Mintek who lead the massive decorating effort. | We got a lot of help, and not ALL the prep was difficult. We designed and made our own invitations, maps of the island, flowers, and decorations. Jacquelyn made the wedding cake cookies and decorated them with the help of Connie and Elaine. We had gift bags for each guest and Jason and Chapel rode bikes around the island delivering them to everyone's hotels.

Even getting to the island wasn't easy. We drove the 1500 miles from our home in Utah to Michigan with Willow in the backseat and lugged the dress and all our supplies up and down the hotel stairs each night. Once the two of us and Tina got to the Mackinaw City docks, we carried the dress with us on the ferry because Chapel was too nervous to let anyone else handle it. But the really impressive feat was the way that the porter carried all the wedding supplies to Small Point Inn. Eventually we made it.

Everyone made their way, flying, driving, and ferrying, to the island starting on Thursday July 29. Many of us gathered at the Bistro on the Greens for dinner that night. Guests continued to arrive over the next couple of days and it was always a thrilling surprise to see a familiar face appear out of the crowd at the docks. The weather was beautiful all weekend, only raining on our last morning as we all headed home.

Dinner at the 1852 Grill Room was followed by the Bridal Shower at Small Point Inn and the Bachelor Party where the guys went to see a stand up comedian who was kinda terrible. Friday, July 30.

Bridesmaids' Luncheon at the Grand Hotel

Saturday after the Luncheon we were scheduled to fly kites on the lawn but the beautiful weather didn't provide much wind so we ended up lounging on the lawn and playing bean bag toss until the wedding rehearsal. After a quick rehearsal we went to dinner at Goodfellows downtown.

The ladies getting dressed in the Mission Point Resort, Hunts Suite.

Our Wedding Day. Sunday August, 1st, 2010.

The Moment by Theodore Roethke We passed the ice of pain And came to a dark ravine, And there we sang with the sea: The wide, the bleak abyss Shifted with our slow kiss. Space struggled with time; The gong of midnight struck The naked absolute. Sound, silence sang as one. All flowed: without, within; Body me body, we Created what’s to be. What else to say? We end in joy.

"Always remember there was nothing worth sharing like the love that let us share our name." -The Avett Brothers

"Smile an everlasting smile, a smile can bring you near to me. Don't ever let me find you gone, cause that would bring a tear to me." -Bee Gees' "Words"
