Our wedding was held at Sunshine Valley Gardens, a beautiful sight in the Black Hills with a Pavilion for the ceremony and dancing, a bridal gazebo, a reception lodge, and several neat areas for picture-taking. To stay with our Renaissance theme, we decorated with banners, ribbons, and a sword on the wall.

Left: My flowers Right: Colista meditated before the ceremony. Below right: Our wedding cup and the flower girl basket

Aunt Louise hung ribbons while Lloyd and Sherry fixed his outfit. Right: Danielle's jewelry was designed and created by Colista.

Preparing the Bride: Colista helped with makeup and hair, lacing the corset, and adjusting the headpiece.

The photographer had Bert keep his back turned while Danielle approached. | We purchased our matching outfits at a Renaissance Festival in Minnesota.

The happiest day of my life...

While the bridal party waited for the ceremony to begin, Trevor took pictures of the arriving guests and asked them to sign the guest book. Glorianna handed out programs.

Aunt Michael, Grandma Edna, Aunt Marilyn, Uncle Noel, and Sherry (standing) | Guys in Glasses | Sarah, Danielle's friend from college | Chan read while waiting for the ceremony to begin. | Brandyn's girlfriend, Bonnie | Friends from the Black Hills Writers' Group: Jen, Lori, Karen, and Patty | Right: Bert played with Maysyn and Connor after the ceremony.

"Believe in happily ever after, and it will come true"

We used music from the TV show "Firefly" for our entrances.

B | & | D | Cristell read from I Corinthians 13, as well as this passage from "A History of Love" by Diane Ackerman: "Love. What a small word we use for an idea so immense and powerful that it has altered the flow of history, calmed monsters, kindled works of art, cheered the forlorn, turned tough guys to mush, consoled the enslaved, driven strong women mad, glorified the humble, fueled national scandals, bankrupted robber barons, and made mincemeat of kings. How can love’s spaciousness be conveyed in the narrow confines of one syllable? Love is an ancient delirium, a desire older than civilization, with taproots stretching deep into dark and mysterious days. The heart is a living museum. In each of its galleries, no matter how narrow or dimly lit, preserved forever like wondrous diatoms, are our moments of loving and being loved."

Our Vows Anam cara is translated from the Gaelic as "soul friend." By entering into a partnership with your anam cara, you are joined in an ancient and eternal way with this person whom you most cherish. Danielle: Today I recognize you, my anam cara. Bert: And ask that you become a part of me, in sacred kinship. Danielle: With you, I have lost all fear and have found the greatest courage. Bert: I have learned to love and let myself be loved. Danielle: With you, I have found a rhythm of grace and gracefulness. Bert: Love has reawakened in my life. Danielle: Love has brought a rebirth and a new beginning. Bert: With you, my anam cara, I am understood. Danielle: With you, my anam cara, I am home.

After exchanging our vows, we shared a wedding cup, passing it back and forth and each taking a sip in honor of our love in the past, present, and future.

Announcing Mr. and Mrs. Huntsinger | After the ceremony, we joined hands and danced out for our recessional.

"This day I will marry my friend, the one I laugh with, live for, dream with, love." | Jerry's Cakes in Rapid City made our cake. The center cake was supposed to have one more tier, but the red velvet cake was still delicious!

F O R E V E R | During the reception, Cristell told stories about Bert's childhood and Chantelle shared her part in how the couple had met. | For our reception meal, we had a burrito bar from Qdoba's Mexican Grill.

...But that's a good thing, really, because he moved away years ago, and it still feels like he lives just down the block. Of course, having driven here from California last week, I did realize my error by Wyoming or so. So why did Bert ask me to come out here? Naturally, I assumed he needed a stunt double for his wedding, but alas, he asked me to be his best man. So, apparently he wanted me to get up here and tell embarrassing stories about him. I thought long and hard about this and realized the most embarrassing thing I could say about Bert...is that I can't think of any embarrassing stories about Bert! | We enjoyed Brandyn's speech so much that we asked him to send us a copy of his notes, which we shortened some for space. | Bert and I met almost twenty years ago, in the dark ages before the Internet. So, we actually used to hang out in person. I know--weird.

I thought maybe he had skeletons in his closet. But it turns out he doesn't keep them there; he keeps them behind the bathroom mirror. And I mean that literally. You see, when he was remodeling his prior house, knowing that eventually he would host a Halloween party there, he installed a skeleton--with its own light and secret switch--behind a mirror in the bathroom, so that during Halloween he could flip the switch and people would see a glowing skeleton superimposed upon their reflection. So, apparently, he has skeletons in other people's closets... ...Anyway, besides his relentless and methodical creativity, Bert's been one of my best friends all these years because he is just what he seems--benevolent to the core and with absolute integrity. I would have no hesitation leaving my life's savings with him in cash. Though, knowing Bert, I might get it all back in gold... And his integrity isn't just with others but with himself too. He approaches the world without preconceptions, weighing all sides by their evidence. And when more evidence comes in, he weighs again. Suffice it to say: Don't be fooled by his unassuming nature--Bert is very, very wise. (Perhaps more so than he knows.) But that should be evident today, because he chose to marry Danielle. ...when Bert talks to me about Danielle, right from the very beginning, he tells me how full of integrity she is, how she appreciates the world with honesty and an open mind, and what this all translates to, for me, is that they communicate very well, that they are truly conscious and aware of each other in a way that gives me no doubt that they will be more than just married, but best friends for the rest of their lives...

After the reception meal, there was dancing. To start everything off, Bert and Danielle danced to "You and I" sung by Michael Buble. | Our First Dance | In my mind, we can conquer the world. In love, you and I, you and I...

Our wedding day has finally come... | I found my strength in you 'cause in my mind, you will stay here always...

Father-Daughter Dance | Since he'd taken dance lessons, Lloyd taught Danielle some moves to add to their dance. They danced to "Angel in My Arms" by Jack Kapanka. | "You'll be an angel in his arms and how he'll love you so. Now at last the day has come that I must let you go. Till this song ends, I'll hold you gently with tenderness and care and let you know your daddy forever will be there." | Left: One of our favorite dances was a spontaneous "Circle Dance." Although it started as a circle, more and more people joined as we danced, and it eventually became a follow-the-leader line. It was a lot of fun!

During a break in the dancing, Trevor, Brandyn, and Bert entertained everyone with their juggling skills.

Michael, Seth, Isaiah, and Emily decorated the package, which contained a mosaic tray made by Sarah. | Chantelle and Chan's gift was a square foot of land at Dunans Castle, entitling us to a lairdship there.

Other gifts included a cross-stitch made by Grandma Millie and framed by Uncle Don and a quilt made by Aunt Louise. | Left: Before we found the matching outfits, Danielle had bought material and arranged for a seamstress to make a different dress. It ended up not fitting as well since Danielle lost weight before the wedding, but she decided to wear it for the second half of the reception.
