34: To Our Dear Friends and Family | What a wonderful day we had! Many helping hands contributed to our wedding, and we are very thankful to have had the support of our friends and family. We were reminded once again how lucky we are to have you in our lives. First and foremost we want to thank our parents, who prepared us for this day through their example of loving relationships, many years before we were fretting over flowers, cakes, and dresses. When the proposal came, you shared in our excitement, and each of you graciously welcomed a new family member over the holidays. Thank you for your generosity in hosting such a lovely, memorable day for us. David wishes to thank his mother Judy, father Ronald and sister Kari for their helpfulness and wise counsel in the hectic months leading up to April 28th. From David: Katherine wishes to thank her family, too – all seven of them – for indulging her plans for a particular brand of New England wedding. From Katherine: | I proposed to Katherine at the end of August, on bended knee in the Maui sand. For whatever reason--perhaps well-intentioned eagerness, or misguided optimism--we gave ourselves eight months to plan the wedding and honeymoon, during which time my employer also decided to go public. Your support during this busy time meant a lot to me. I also want to thank my groomsmen, Brett, Eric, Jay, Mihir and Sanjay. Between a "groomsmen event" in Miami and a wedding in Boston, you guys traveled many miles on my behalf. Special thanks to Jay for the flawless execution of his duties as Best Man, including the procurement of two wooden ducks and the delivery of a reliably witty speech at the reception. First, many thanks to Mom for her tireless work managing caterers, musicians, florists, and photographers, and for cheerfully acting as our on-the-ground wedding planner. I don’t think for any amount of money we could have found a wedding planner as dedicated, detail-
35: Finally, we both want to thank our wonderful guests. Many of you traveled a long way to be with us, and we are incredibly grateful that you joined us on that sunny day in Lincoln, Massachusetts. The last few pages of this book showcase your smiling faces. All the best, Katherine & David | oriented, and generous with her time. Dad: thank you for wanting me to have my dream wedding, and doing everything possible to make that happen. I will always remember what you said about weddings being very important occasions, which should be arranged with commensurate generosity and attention to detail. Thank you for treating our wedding as such an important occasion – it really was a special day. Next, thank you to my siblings! Thank you, Alison, for planning pre-wedding festivities, coordinating wedding-day transportation, chauffeuring, fending off the police, and rescuing me after a small wardrobe malfunction. You were a wonderful maid of honor! And my brothers – thanks to Justin, Rob, Hugo, and Jonny for ushering, keeping the dance floor alive, and looking especially dapper. A special thank you to little Jonny for ringing the church bell at the ceremony and then for his imaginative free-style dance at the reception. And finally, thank you to my dear friends who also helped immensely. Thanks to Carol Fiorelli, for keeping us sane in the last few days before the wedding, and who caught Jonny's dance on tape. I also want to thank my bridesmaids, Bequis, Deby and Kari for taking such good care of me on the big wedding weekend. Living all across the country, it was a special privilege to have all of you in one room. I hope we can do it again someday!
