FC: The McLeods | Darric & Rachel | Our Wedding Day June 5, 2004
1: "There is only one happiness in life, to love and to be loved." I worked at the town grocery store deli with my friend Debbie. She knew Jocelyn (Darric's sister) from working there too. The two of them talked about setting us up, and a "blind date" was in the works! I attended UNI & lived in Cedar Falls; Darric worked for Garling Construction and lived in Belle Plaine. Excited, yet nervous, I was back in Belle Plaine and decided that I would stop by to meet this man I was being set up with ...to give him directions to my apartment. It was awkward to walk into a strangers home, but it went swimmingly. We talked for hours and were ready to give our now not-so-blind date a try. It was May 2002 when he took me out for dinner and drinks... skipping the movie he bought tickets for in order to continue our conversation. It went well and we began to see a lot of each other. Darric would make treks up to Cedar Falls to see me AND to deliver a few love letters occasionally! I would come back to Belle Plaine quite frequently in order to spend more time with the man I was fast falling more and more in love with. By October, 2003, he had bought the ring! We had talked often of marriage and starting a life & family together. He returned home from working over the road that week, went to Cedar Rapids to purchase the ring, and proceeded to ask my father for permission to marry his only daughter. The answer was yes; and though the two men thought they should go celebrate with a few beers, Darric knew I was anticipating his arrival home. Waiting there, I could sense what was to come, especially as father kept calling to see if Darric had gotten home yet and that I shouldn't be mad at his tardiness! He "romantically" pulled the ring box from the pocket of his hooded sweatshirt while on bended knee, and asked "The Question"... Will You Marry Me? Of course the answer was YES and the date was set for the following June. | Our Story

16: Darric, As I put together this ceremony, I wanted to add personal vows. Yet every time I went to write it, I came up without the words, only the feeling I wanted to portray. All the words about what love is have been said, but much like our love at times- love isn’t what we say—but what we do. Words have no way to explain the extent of my emotions. As a girl, I have dreamed about this day since childhood. Standing here now it is a bit surreal. I planned for this day & I wanted it to be perfect. Not for just me, but for you, for us. So as I stand before you now, my vow is this--- that in what ever we face -joys or obstacles – I will think not just for me, but for you.for us. For the honor and respect that formed this love can never be broken. I will always love you ~ This is my vow.
