35: Welcome, welcome - You know, I still remember exactly where I was when I heard the big news. I was sitting on my horse at a rodeo when I hear this scream across the arena from my mother - Your sister's engaged!! She raced over and handed me the phone so I could personally congratulate my sister! And the first thing that Shilo said was, "Will you be my Maid of Honor?" I was immediately overwhelmed with joy as I was only thinking about one thing - A Bachelorette Party! My mind wandered to the streets of Vegas where I pictured us being driven around in extravagant limos by shirtless men offering us pina coladas in their chonies! Our amigos Jose Cuervo and Patron would be waiting in shot glasses sitting upon chiseled abs of a Chippindale Strippers! We were then getting kicked out of a swanky club for my big mouth and were on to the next one! Suddenly my dream was rudely interrupted again by my sister's voice. "Ty... we chose a date for the wedding," she said. You're going to have a Fall wedding right? September would be perfect because the summer tans on the Thunder Downunder boys are just right and the weather will be cooler in Vegas by then. You know, October might even be better. Apparently Shilo could sense the wild thoughts going through my mind because the next thing she said was, "I'm sorry... but it's going to be June 25th." June 25th? As in two weeks before my 21st Birthday, June 25th? All the thoughts from my head scattered as I sat there waving goodbye to the imaginary party limo and watching all the Vegas lights shut off simultaneously. Ugh. Well, as you all personally bear witness, I still reluctantly agreed to this job. You see, the funny thing is that you could have bribed then the ten year old me with a shiny $100 dollar bill to be my sister's Maid of Honor and probably would have looked at you like you were smoking crack. When you have two people living under the same roof, naturally they want to kill each other in their sleep as Shilo and I threatened to do on a frequent basis. This was because we are certainly two very different people - I was, or should I say, I am a but more careless and unplanned, while Shilo is organized and always puts her best foot forward. When Shilo moved out, we learned to appreciate each other much more and developed a great relationship. We would watch movies together, do each others nails, and take our dogs to classes together. And as life often takes people through unexpected courses, Shilo went through some difficult times, which of course was hard for anyone in our family to see. She had lost her shining light. Being as athletic as she is, she decided to take up bike riding. Now, as you all could probably guess, she ended up meeting a very special someone on her weekly Wednesday night rides. I remember her coming over and we'd gossip about boys and she'd often bring up this guy named Bob. She'd gush about how cute he was and how often he flirted with her and even though she was worried he might be a bit of a ladies man, she decided she still liked him. We even stalked him on Facebook a few times, and I'm sure Shilo did it much more often when I wasn't there. I started seeing my sister less and less, but every time I did see her, she was getting more of her happy spirit back. And yes, our entire family was sick to death of hearing about bicycles. "Oh, we want to plan a trip trip to Paris someday." "Paris!! We could ride bikes in Paris!" And even though my ears were bleeding from all this talk, it was the first time, in a long time I had seen her truly happy. I didn't quite know who this Bob guy was, but he couldn't be too bad if he's making my sister this giddy! After meeting Bob, I could easily see why my sister was so happy. I had never seen someone who looked at my sister with such love and care - I was truly happy for her. Bob still hadn't met my parents, but he made quite the first impression when he did, which was at a Halloween party where Bob confidently wore pants with spikes coming out of the crotch and was also carrying a whip! I'm sure my dad loved his sense of humor though. A few months into dating, Shilo was visiting my house and I could tell something was on her mind. After bugging and prodding for a while, she finally told me she wanted to talk to Bob about moving in. And seeing as she was spending every waking moment with him, I told her go for it! What's the worst that can happen? Sometimes you've gotta just live life and not be so planned all the time. The rest is history as you know it. This of course led us to this incredible event today. Bob, you now have four more sisters. And as you already know, all of the Hawker girls are a little crazy and possibly insane - So I apologize ahead of time because you will have to deal with all of us for the rest of your life. However, we are the most fun and exciting group of girls you will ever know, guaranteed. I can tell by your involvement in the wedding and even in Shilo's bridal and bachelorette party that you care for Shilo in the deepest way possible. I know you will be there for her which is what I'm expecting you to do, otherwise you will have a mob of psychotic and angry girls waiting for you at your door but I highly doubt that will be necessary. To the beautiful bride and my wonderful sister Shilo - I am really sorry if I embarrassed you at all during my speech, but I am truly honored and grateful to have been chosen as your Maid of Honor. I have yet to see a bride as stunning as you are, and I know you will make the most wonderful wife to Bob. I pray that you two never underestimate the importance of each other and always put each other first in whatever you do. I wish you all the best from the start line of the greatest ride of your lives. I love you both! To Shilo & Bob!!
