24: The symbolism of the lazo is to show the union and protection of marriage. This act is symbolic of their love, which should bind the couple together everyday as they equally share the responsibility of marriage
26: Jumping of the broom dates back to the 1600 and is derived from Africa: The broom has symbolic and spiritual importance in the African culture. The ritual itself was created by our ancestors during slavery. Because slaves could not legally marry, the ritual was created to honor their unions. The straw represents family, the handle represents the Almighty, the ribbon represents the tie that binds the couple together. The tradition shows a family strength, love, togetherness, loyalty, and respect.
