S: The Last Semester of Welch
BC: Welch Kitchen: A Brief History Welch Hall was built in 1963 as a men's dorm. There have been updates and improvements made to the "dining hall" over the years. A highlight of the kitchen has always been the pizza delivery (it was done on golf carts in the late 1970s). In 2006, Cafe 1842 opened to expand dining options to include a "fine dining" experience. Specializing in Italian-American pasta, it was a hit with students. It closed in 2009. Welch saw its last major renovation during the summer of 2009. A large salad bar, improvements to the grill, and the expansion into the old Cafe began the transformation of Welch into what it is today. A fitness center was added in the old dining space across the hall from the kitchen in 2011. Over the years, Welch Kitchen has become a favorite hang out space for students to study, visit, and just have fun.Welch Kitchen will close for the final time on May 9, 2012. Even with the doors closed, the memories will live on.
