Ordinary World Frodo Baggins, who is a hobbit, lives in the quiet, peaceful shire. His life is full of fun and joy. He was raised to believe that the world wasn't bad and it was full of good people. He has a big heart and it is full of adventure. He is not aware of what goes on, outside his world. His weaknesses will be tested when he leaves the ordinary world and he will become wiser.

Call to Adventure Bilbo Baggins leaves the ring with Frodo and he leaves to go to Rivendell, a place where elves live. Gandalf, a powerful wizard, researches the ring at Isengard and realizes its the ring of Sauron. Sauron is an evil lord that tries to dominate the middle world. Gandalf gives Frodo the task of leaving the shire and bringing the ring to Rivendell, so Gandalf can bring it to Mount Doom to be destroyed.

Refusal of the Call Frodo doesn’t understand why Gandalf can’t bring the ring to Rivendell himself. He is afraid to leave the shire even though he has always wanted adventure. Frodo realizes that certain things are after this special ring and doesn’t want to be the one to carry it, especially after Gandalf describes who made the ring.

Meeting with the Mentor Gandalf is Frodo's main mentor throughout his journey. He helped and looked after Frodo when he lived in the shire. Gandalf helps Frodo understand things about the special world and tells what he needs to do with the ring in order to destroy it.

Crossing the First Threshold As soon as Frodo, Sam, Pippin, and Merry leave the shire, Ringwraiths come after them and are trying to get the ring. Ringwraiths are dead human kings who turned over to the evil side. Frodo realizes that the ordinary world is truly different then the special world. He knows that anybody will kill him to get the ring.

Tests, Allies, Enemies Frodo's tests are over coming the greed of men and keeping the ring away from them. Getting stabbed with a special blade, that will cause him pain for the rest of his life, and almost going over to the evil side. Another test is stepping up to a job that nobody believes he can do. Frodo's allies is the fellowship of the ring. It includes; Gandalf, Grimle, Legolas, Aragorn, Boramir, Mary, Pippin, and Sam. The allies help Frodo to accomplish his task. Enemies of Frodo are Sauron, Sorumon, orks, goblins, and greedy men.

Approach to the Inmost Cave Frodo is traveling to Rivendell with Sam, Merry, Pippin, and Aragorn. They are stopped for the night at ancient ruins and attract the attention of the ring wraiths. The ring wraiths are creatures that are hunting for the ring and will do anything to bring it back to Sauron

Ordeal/Death Experience Frodo is stabbed by a ring wraith with a morgul blade. This will turn him into a ring wraith if he doesn't get help soon enough. As he is traveling with Arwen, who is an elven princess, he must find the strength and the will in himself to make it Rivendell and help. He does and becomes more aware of seriousness of his task.

Reward Frodo and the rest of his friends all make it to Rivendell, which was the task Gandalf gave him. Frodo, Sam, Pippin, and Merry start to make plans to travel back to the shire.

The Road Back After the meeting and when Frodo volunteers to take the ring, the Fellowship set out for Mordor to destroy the ring. During this time Frodo has to over come a obstacle: temporarily losing his mentor (Gandalf).

Resurrection Boromir tries to take the ring from Frodo and shortly after that, the Urukai show up to kill all of them. Frodo decides that to finish the journey, he must continue on his own. He has learned that men can't resist the ring as he can, and so to keep it safe, he must be alone.

Return with Elixir Frodo and Sam are now traveling alone in a strange land. They have made progress and come closer to Mordor, much closer than they would have in a large group. They have also kept the ring out of the hands of Sauron.
