2: Mesopotamia was located between the TIgris and Euphrates Rivers. | Mesopotamians were the first to develop and use irrigation systems. | Cuneiform was a writing system composed of wedge shaped symbols used by the Mesopotamians. | Kings and queens were believed to come from the City of Gods, but were not considered actual gods themselves. | Mesopotamia

3: Ziggurats were places of worship, trading and storage of the nation’s treasure located at the center of Mesopotamian cities. | An Oud is a stringed, musical instrument used by the Mesopotamians. | Mesopotamians were polytheistic, meaning they worshiped more than one god. | Mesopotamians were one of the first to make beer and wine. | Priests and priestesses were near the top of the Mesopotamian social structure.

4: Ancient Egypt was centered around the lower Nile River. | All if not most ancient Egyptians were adept at mathematics. | Ancient Egyptians used Hieroglyphics, a writing system largely composed of pictures. | They were first to use slavery. | Beer was a common drink in Ancient Egypt | Egypt

5: The Egyptians invented a ceramic material called faience. | The pharaoh, the ruler of Egypt, was believed by his people to represent the will of the gods. | Ancient Egyptians were polytheistic. | Scepters and staffs were considered a sign of authority. | Pyramids were built as tombs for pharaohs.

6: Indus River Valley | The Indus RIver Valley Civilization was located between the Indes and Ganges rivers. | The Indus language was composed of several hundred symbols. | Each town had a Municipal Government. | They all worshipped a mother goddess as well as animal gods. | Priests were at the top of society.

7: Each town had a well made sewage system. | Major buildings were located in the center of cities. | Trade was a major part of their economy. | They grew wheat and barley. | They made seals with various inscriptions.

8: China | Ancient China was located between the Yellow and Yangtze Rivers. | They were polytheistic, worshipping sky and weather gods as well as a supreme god. | They used bones to predict the future. | A common staple food was rice. | The emperor or empress was the ruler of society.

9: Pictographs were the early form of Chinese writing. | The Chinese developed tea. | They invented gunpowder. | They invented the compass. | The emperor or empress could only rule as long as he/she held the Mandate of Heaven. When something really bad happened, like a natural disaster, a new royal house was selected to have the Mandate of Heaven.
