My pal Water, loved to be in the spotlight. He enjoyed covering three-fourths(70%) of our planet Earth and was thrilled when she was called the Blue Planet because of him.
Initially people adored and hero worshiped him. They needed him to keep themselves hydrated, to grow and enjoy food, to build marvelous cities, to bring light into their lives(Hydroelectric power) and most importantly to exist.
But however not everybody knew that water had two distinct qualities. He was both salty and clear/fresh. Unfortunately majority (97.5%)of him was salty and only a small amount(2.5 %) was clear/fresh, and to make matters worse only 1% of this clear/fresh quality was accessible to us. In other words if we did put all of him in a bucket, only a teaspoon was usable by us.
As a result of this lack of knowledge not many people used this precious little fellow wisely and took him for granted. They did things at home which they could have avoided, like leaving the tap open while brushing their teeth, watering the lawn on rainy days, using a hose instead of a bucket to wash their cars and much more.
In addition many treated him without respect and polluted him with garbage, industrial and human waste. This combined with poor management, lack of education and geographical constraints, gave rise to an acute shortage of clean accessible water in certain parts of our planet. People had to struggle to get access to him and found it very difficult to survive without him.
All this made him feel miserable and helpless. He wished that somebody would come to his aid and restore things back to normal. He waited , waited and waited.........
When he was almost on the verge of giving up and had lost all hope, a miracle happened. YOU came along ! You brought with you concern, interest and a desire to make a difference . You not only changed your ways, but also helped to spread awareness on the need to conserve water. My little pal Water, will always be thankful to YOU.
