4: Hakeem had to leave family, friends, and school behind because his father had got sick with kidney cancer. Hakeem's father wasn't able to work, so Hakeem and his family had to move to Detroit because with his father sick he couldn't work and wasn't able what they had. When Hakeem and his family settled in, Hakeem finds his cousin very mysterious. Hakeem starts working at his uncle's store to help out his family. Hakeem meets a young lady named Anika. Anika seems to be
5: hiding something from Hakeem. Hakeem discovers the truth about his cousin. Hakeem learns that 'Blood Is Thicker'. The lesson learned in this novel is to 'think' before you 'react' and to never judge a book by its cover.
6: Hakeem- He is emotional. He isn't sure what will happen to his father. He doesn't want to leave his friends and school behind. He learns how to be a man. Savon- He's mysterious. Savon tends to be disobedient. Savon doesn't think anyone pays him any attention. Savon feels that Hakeem
7: is taking his place. Anika-She seems to be hiding things from Hakeem. Anika's grandma is getting put in a nursery home. Anika moves to California because she doesn't want to get put in foster home.
8: Conflicts & Resolutions: Hakeem's internal conflict was that he wanted to give up, but he knew that he had to be strong because his father had kidney cancer. He struggled with being the man of the house, and helping out by working. Hakeem felt like he couldn't do it, Hakeem liked Anika, but he wasn't sure of what people were telling him. Hakeem thought that his cousin, Savon, was no good and thought Savon was a bad guy.
9: In the end, Hakeem discovers that his father doesn't have kidney cancer and his father can start back working. Hakeem find out the real reason why Savon acted different and did what he had done. Hakeem and Savon become closer as cousins. Hakeem finally get the truth about Anika because she told him.
10: Paul Langan was born in Philadelphia, in 1972. In 1991 Paul enrolled in Camden County College then transfered to La Salle University. Paul studied creative writing. Paul earned a B.A. in English. After graduation Paul start working for a nonprofit agency in Philadelphia, he joined Townsend Press then start creative writing with the Bluford Series.
11: Recommendation: I thought that the novel was a life learned situation. I can connect with the parts when yu want to say thing but you just can't finds the words, and when you see something but don't want to say anything. Times when you think someone is better than you.
