BC: Goodbye Russia! | Hello America!

FC: Journey To America | By Taylor Sweeten

1: Russia, my old home. | My Family. | My Mother, My Father, My sister

2: July 17th 1914 Today I had started packing everything I needed in the only bag I was aloud to bring. In total we brought 4 bags. One for my mother, one for my father, My sister and me. I wasn't prepared to leave Saint Petersburg, Russia. It was the only place I knew, but I was also excited to meet my grandparents again. I hadn't seen them since they left a few years back. We started preparing to board the boat, and be on our way to America. Once on the boat, I realized how many people wanted to see America too. My father and my sister were on a different side of the ship, and I was with my mother. The trip was long, and I wanted it to be over. So many people were looking for their family. The water was rough, splashing up every now and again. With all the people who wanted the same journey as me, I wasn't surprised at how many people were on the boat.

4: July 20th 1914 We’ve been waiting to find out if we were aloud into America or if we had to leave. The great hall was massive, there were so many people. People crowded around with their families, waiting like we did. We had passed the medical exam, and we went to the legal inspection. So many people were waiting in line, hoping to get into America as well. I had a little bit of money that my grandparents had given me before then. My grandmother told me to exchange it when I get to the money exchange. We just got to the money exchange, and I took my dollar bills, and exchange the money my grand mother had given me. I only got a few coins in return, but it was more than I had before. We waited and waited, until finally, it was time for us to be reunited with my grandparents.

6: July 24th 1914 We made it to the kissing post the other day. I got to see my grandparents. I told my grandmother all about the journey here, How I kept being pushed around, and than I showed her the coins I had gotten. I was so excited. The six of us all got on the boat to Manhattan. I was already glad that there weren't as many people on the ship as before. Also, the trip wasn't as long either. I was so glad when we arrived at the island of Manhattan. I remember grabbing my bag, and taking it off the ship, and stepping foot on Manhattan land, and a big smile spreading across my face.
