S: Retreat 2011

BC: Let these be your desires: To know the pain of too much tenderness, To return home at eventide with gratitude, And then to sleep with a prayer for the beloved in your heart and a song of praise on your lips.

FC: Retreat 2011

The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one; I in them and you in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me. John 17:22-23

Driftaway, the house Meredith rented for us

Jim and Tosca trying to share their AI addiction Our favorite bottle of wine Camy "You talkin' to me?" Tang

Meredith, When I hear your name an immediate image always leaps into my imagination. It’s of you with joy pouring out of your eyes. And even beyond that, an expectation. An expectation of good in the moments about to happen. Do you know this about yourself? I wonder. I think you have no idea how powerful your countenance is and the light that radiates off of you. You invite people inside in every moment. You tell people you care, that they’re important, they are loved before you ever speak a word. You do that for so many, you do that for me. It is a treasure to call you my friend, Jim

Camy and Tosca--which one is which again? John doing physics experiments at the beach

Meredith, you are a special woman. You're generous with your time and your love, pouring them out in great heaps on your family and friends. You laugh with us when it's time to laugh and you cry with us when it's time to cry. You're there when we need a friend. It's always scary to use the L-word, because somebody, somewhere might misunderstand. But we don't care whether people don't understand. We love you, every one of us. Meredith, you're the little sister I never had and always wanted. A million hugs aren't enough, but they'll have to do. Here, have another: {{{{{Meredith}}}}} Love from your big brother, Randy

Meredith, you are a blessing to all around you. You are generous, open, gentle, warm, funny, and--above all else--loving. You show your love in a thousand ways--encouraging words, hugs, smiles, heart-touching gifts, and bringing your friends together for a mountaintop week on the Oregon coast. I am privileged to call you my friend. Rick

Oh, we ARE an attractive bunch!

The house had a huge and comfy sectional sofa . . .

. . . and yes, we used it A LOT.

Four B&H authors who haven't read the "moral turpitude" clauses of their contracts recently.

The wonderful books Meredith made for each of us on the retreat.

My hovercraft is full of eels-- Thar she blows, thar she keels No one knows just how I feels Them fishy bites, I hopes they heals. - Tosca | Email exchange: Tosca: Hey Rick--what is the general feel of what people are writing? Is it all blessing, or is it a note, or a story of how they met Mer... etc.? Rick: Oops, did I forget to tell you? We're all doing Welsh quatrains that share the same first line: "Mae fy hofrenfad yn llawn llyswennod." Tosca: "My hovercraft is full of eels??"

Meredith, Oh, girl, I could say so many things about why I love you. But the greatest one is this: you show me a glimpse of the love of God. Your companionship is life-giving, affirming, protective, wild, beautiful, naked, extravagant as nard. I love laughing with you, and there is no one whose arms I feel as safe crying in as yours. I love you truly. Tosca

Meredith, I am so thankful to God for you. I am amazed that He knew exactly what He was doing when He randomly assigned us together for the conference mentoring program. You are my sister—you push me, you stretch me, you tease me, you love me. You have taught me to be better than who I am and yet to be true to who I am. Your unconditional love is a cup of water to me. Thank you for loving me so much! Camy

Meredith, Your love for people is evident in all you do, and that gift you have for making others feel valued – well, it spilled over all of us this week, and we were so blessed by it. Thank you for taking the initiative to gather us together, for being vulnerable enough to share yourself with us, and for creating a special experience that each of us will treasure! You are loved. Tracy

Meredith, You are the perfect blend of abundance and need. God’s love flows unhindered through you in both directions and quenches the deepest thirst of everyone He has planted around you. You are passion and vulnerability and honesty. Living art bubbles out of you from deep, inexhaustible springs. Sharp and fresh and invigorating, it shocks the senses. Love stripped of all cliché. A startling slap to the face delivered with the tenderness of a warm hug. You are a catalyst for honesty and affection and fun – the bond that brings people together and holds them fast. Your great kindness and dedication to your friends is an inspiration. Knowing you makes me want to be a better person. Knowing you makes me feel God’s love in a deeper way. I am truly blessed, and you are the source of that blessing. John

Tosca's yummy quiche "Watching" a movie on the last night of the retreat
