S: Mexican Riviera Cruise 2011

BC: Another amazing adventure

FC: Cruising the Mexican Riviera and much more...

These are our plans for the next 18 days: Feb 4th - Explore San Pedro where our cruise port is located. Feb 5th - 11 - Cruising the Mexican Riviera on the Norwegian Star Feb 12th and 13th - See the sights of LA Feb 14th-21st - Visit my Parent's in Weslaco Texas As Howard says, "It is like having four vacations in one" | It's the evening of Thursday, February 3rd. As we sit in the plane we talk about our vacation with excitement, we are so curious to find out the answers to many questions we have asked ourselves since we started planning this trip. Questions like how much Los Angeles has changed since we were last there? What will the Mexican Riviera be like? Will the Norwegian Star and our cabin be everything we hoped it would be? We will be enjoying so many things in different places we can't wait to start our adventure.

We loved to hangout by the pool and listen to the bands.

We were on the 8th floor - Cabin 8176. It was at the very back of the ship right in the center.

We really enjoyed spending time out on the balcony. Often we would get breakfast and bring it back to the cabin. | We saw dolphins a few times and Howard even saw a whale.

"Our memories of the ocean will linger on, long after our footprints in the sand are gone."

Cabo San Lucas | Cabo San Lucas is located at the southern most tip of the Baja peninsula and is said to be the jewel of the peninsula. Once a tranquil fishing village and in times long ago a hangout for pirates, it is now one of the most popular winter vacation destinations. It is home to miles and miles of beaches both on the Pacific coast and the Sea of Cortez. It has been blessed with what many say perfect year round temperature of 78 degrees. Cabo is home to the famous Los Arcos rock formations, Sammy Hagar's Cabo Wabo, sport fishing and golf..

Cabo was our first port on this cruise. and the only one that required a tender. Lucky for us the cruise ship was anchored right in front of Los Arcos. We decided to go on the Coastal Highlights tour. They will be taking us to an old cathedral, glass blowing factory and Cactimundo a botanical garden home to over 5,000 plants. After the tour we did a little shopping and went to Cabo Wabo and Del Sol. Our first stop was to see the beautiful views from the Sunset Point Wine and Pizza Lounge.

This is Sammy Hagar's original cantina in Cabo San Lucas

 Cactimundo Los Cabos Botanical Garden

The garden contains over 750 species of cacti

 Cabo San Lucas Marina

 Mazatlan

Located on Mexico's Gold Coast, Mazatlan has been nicknamed "The Pearl City". It spreads for 15 sun splashed miles along a thumb of land that extends southward into the Pacific. It is known for its beautiful beaches as well as their boardwalk which extends 20 kms. | Our balcony is the one with the Canadian flags..

We docked at the commercial port and because it's a bustling cargo port you are taken on a free tram to the cruise terminal. From there we took a pulmonia taxi which is a souped-up golf cart to the Gold Zone. You will see more of these roaming the streets than an actual taxi.

Touring around the Gold Zone of Mazatlan

This is the beach that Howard parasailed from. | Pancho's Beachfront Restaurant & Bar

As we sail away from Mazatlan a golden glow from the sunset blankets the city.

Located on the Pacific Coast of Mexico at the heart of Banderas Bay, Puerto Vallarta enjoys over 300 sunny days a year. Temperatures averages 83 degrees. Puerto Vallarta is situated on the same latitude as Hawaii and enjoys the same tropical climate. It is not just known for its beaches, culture and history but also for it's marine life. Dolphins can be seen frolicking in the bay, there are 5 kinds of sea turtles and humpback whales winter here year after year.

The '60s marked the arrival of Liz Taylor, Ava Gardner and Richard Burton to the set of Night of the Iguana and since then the Puerto Vallarta has attracted filmmakers, artists, sculptors, musicians and cultural enthusiasts alike. Later in the 70's, this city was featured regularly in the hit television series The Love Boat has been attracting cruise visitors since.

This excursion combines the charm of both old and new Mexico. Begin with a drive through the Marina Vallarta area and a stop at the small village’s local church. Continue to Hacienda Dona Engracia, one of the finest tequila factories in the area for a first-hand look at the manufacturing process of tequila and some free time to explore the grounds of this working hacienda. A short shopping stop will be made on the way into the center of Puerto Vallarta where you can walk along the popular malecon.

 Breathtaking

Puerto Vallarta was the last port on our cruise. The next 2 days will be spent relaxing at sea before we return to the cruise port in San Pedro.

It was a great cruise and we had a wonderful time. Although it is sad to see it come to end we still have 2 days in LA and then off to Weslaco for a week.

We arrived back at the cruise port during the night. We disembarked and arrived at the Hacienda Hotel in El Segundo by 9:30 am.. It is a very pretty Mexican inspired hotel. We we able to check in and get our rental car right away so we will have 2 full days in Los Angeles. We plan on visiting some new places and are curious to see how others have changed since we were here in the '80's.

 Santa Monica Pier

 Pacific Coast Highway

 Downtown Disney

Howard and I got up early and headed to the Farmer's Market which is located right next to CBS. It was a beautiful sunny morning and a great place to stop for breakfast. | Hollywood

CBS is home to many of our favourite shows. | This tattoo shop is called LA Ink and is owned by Kat Von Dee.

Mann Theatre Capital Records Kodak Theatre Hollywood walk of fame | Hollywood
