FC: John David Norton first Year of Life
There are moments in life you never forget, and for me, I will never forget the moment I found out I was pregnant with you. It was a moment of excitement, joy, and fear all wrapped in one. The idea of two babies in 12 months was intimidating, but we were so excited to welcome a new baby into our home. My pregnancy with you was rough; I was sick all day long. We also decided to pack up and move halfway across the country when I was pregnant with you, because our now family of four would no longer fit in our apartment in Virginia. You radically changed our lives from the very beginning, and we are so thankful. We love you.
On the morning of October 11th, we woke up early. I straightened my bangs and did my make-up. It felt very surreal that in a few short hours I would be holding my new little baby. After taking Mari to grandma's house we headed to the hospital to check in early for the 11:30 C-section. We were calm and laid back. The nurse even commented on how we seemed very relaxed. Maybe it was because we had just gone through this 12 months earlier, but I think it was because we were so excited to meet you. I was able to watch the whole surgery, and when they pulled you out, Daddy was so excited to announce that you were a boy. Our lives were forever changed the moment we set our eyes on your chubby cheeks and that squinty left eye. You were heavier than your sister at a hefty 8 pounds 11 ounces, but the same height at 20 1/2 inches. We loved every inch of you immediately.

The first time Mari saw you she gave you a hug. She loved you and cuddled you constantly. You would just gaze at her with your big blue eyes. You two loved each other so much and it made your dad and me so happy. | LOVE
 Halloween 2011 Minnie and Mickey | M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E
One Month -------------- You were the sweetest, cuddliest, and fussiest baby ever. From about 2 weeks until 3 months you were very colicky. Grandma and Aunt Jade even came and stayed at our house for two weeks, just so Daddy and I could get some sleep. But, we loved you dearly, because you were so gosh darn adorable.
Happy Thanksgiving! | "I'm thankful for me!" (Aunt Donna made you this shirt!)
You have put on Christ, in Him you have been Baptized. Alleluia! On December 5th, you were Baptized at Holy Family Church by Father Dufner. Papa and Grandma Norton flew out with Aunt Mary and uncles Peter and Paul. All of our Minnesota family was there as well. It was a beautiful celebration! | (First picture of you smiling!)
Two Months Old! You were still really colicky, but man oh man could you smile. You were really good at tummy time. And, you were an awesome snuggler.
 Merry Christmas
We didn't have a silent or calm night, but we did have a grand celebration in honor of that Holy Night so many years ago. You met Jackie, Todd, Bennett, and Spencer for the first time and we spent our first Minnesota Christmas all bundled up and surrounded by family. It was wonderful!
Though it didn't seem possible, your cheeks got even chubbier this month. Your colic finally faded away and your tears where replaced with a big smile and a hearty laugh. Grandpa Grutsch gave you the nickname, "Happy Jack". I don't know if a gentler, sweeter baby has ever existed. | 3 Months Old!
Family :::::::::::::::::::::: At the beginning of January you took your first plane ride out to Maryland. You met all of our Norton family, including your godparents Uncle John and Aunt Jess. It was fun seeing you, Sarah, and Jimmy together since you are all about the same age. You didn't sleep much on that trip, but we had a great time. You even met your first little friend, Rosie Dalgetty.
Four Months Old You began rolling over and sleeping through the night. The picture of you sleeping on the floor is my all time favorite picture of you. I sat you down to play while I cooked dinner and you fell asleep at my feet. Such a sweet baby!
Happy Valentine's Day | I'll love you forever. I'll love you for always. As long as I'm living my baby you'll be.
Busy Little Baby | Five Months | Mom and Baby Story-Time | Sibling Bonding | All Bundled Up | Happy St. Patrick's Day!
First Trip to the Cabin: We got to spend the weekend with all the Minnesota family. | First Outside Stroller Ride | Bath Time | All Smiles!
 H a p p y | E a s t e r | First taste of solid food. | First picture of you and Mari smiling. | First time sitting up. | Trip to Maryland | six | months
You are my sunshine, my only sunshine You make me happy when skies are gray. You'll never know dear how much I love you. | Seven Months
The weather finally turned around, and we took full advantage of the warmth. You loved playing and exploring outdoors. You also started doing the army crawl and enjoyed your newfound independence. Mari however, didn't like that you could now take her toys.
 8 M o n t h s | A family is a little world created by love.
There is something wonderful about recreating your childhood memories with your own children. Growing up on hot summer nights my family would often go to Scoops Ice Cream Shop after dinner. I don't even really like ice cream, but I love their raspberry chocolate chip ice cream. So, one hot evening we headed to Scoops and I got to introduce you and Mari to my favorite treat. You loved your first taste of ice cream, but you were mad that we had to share. You wanted to eat the whole thing yourself! | I scream! You scream! We all scream for ice cream!
 Cabin Week | Nine Months
We took a road trip to Michigan to go to Grandma Norton's family reunion (The Donut Hole Open). You met Great Grandma and Grandpa Young and many other extended family members. Then we headed to Ohio to visit Great Grandpa Norton at his house. It was wonderful to see four generations of Norton men together. We loved seeing all the family, and you and Mari were GREAT in the car!
Ten Months Old | This month you really started to be more of a toddler and less of a baby. You said your first word, Mooooo (Same first word as Mari). You also learned to say dadda and Bye-bye and you could make a stellar monkey noise. And also just like your sister, you refuse to even try to say mama. You began pulling yourself up on everything and cruising around. You were super fast and hard to keep up with. unlike your big sis, you didn't like being by yourself. You would cry if I walked out of the room for a second. You also began showing us your goofy side. You would make this goofy face (like the one in the middle on the right) and make a fake laughing noise. You loved making us laugh. Oh, and the picture on the bottom of this page is of you in your crib with your diaper off. You were so proud of yourself when I went in to pick you up. You were such a sweet and fun-loving kiddo.
Babies, Babies Everywhere! Our house always seems to be busy and full of people. This month Bernadette and Rosie visited and so did some of the Norton cousins from Maryland. WE also had lots of little friends come over too. You loved other kids, but you weren't always willing to share your toys or your mama!
eleven months | Wow. I can't believe how fast your first year went. You went from my little fussy newborn to the happiest, chubbiest baby I have ever seen. We loved you from the blonde ringlets on top of your head to your chubby square feet. Your laugh was infectious and your soul was sweet.
World's Best Little Brother You loved Mari so much, and on her second birthday you had such a blast. You loved the food, the fun, and all the family. It was so wonderful to celebrate with everyone. You and Mari were like two peas in a pod. You could make each other laugh and enjoyed playing together. Watching you two play brought your dad and I so much joy.
