FC: Eritrea, Africa
1: Population- 5,415,280 people (The population has gradually been increasing about 1 million people a year, since 1960) Capital- Asmara
2: Food Eritrea people in the highlands are known for eating "injera" a type of bread. Injera is eaten with stews filled with meat such as beef or chicken and vegetables. They like their food very hot and spicy, so unusual herbs and seasonings are added.
3: Eritrea people in the lowlands are known for eating a dough like recipe with a sauce on top. By tearing the dough into chunks, they use this as a spoon to scoop the sauce up and eat it. Both highland and lowland people drink a common home brewed beer. Coffee is also very common for ceremonies or offered to guests.
4: Religion Eritrea religion is made up of Christian Orthodox and Muslim. Because Christianity and Islam/Muslim are equally practiced, the main holidays are observed by both religions. Death and funerals are different though because the religions have two different views of after life.
5: In most ethnic groups the children are raised in a firm household where they learn from parents and neighbors or close relatives. Children from an early age begin to do chores. | P E O P L E | Boys work in family owned fields. Girls work with their mothers to learn how to be a home maker. Education is not high on the priority list, and most kids are not able to attend regular classes.
6: Land/ Climate Eritrea is located in the Horn of Africa. It is bordered on the northeast and east by the Red Sea. Also bordering it is Sudan (northwest), Ethiopia (south), Djibouti (southwest)
7: Although Eritrea is made up of hot and dry desserts, there are still a few hills and lowlands in the west. It is also cooler and wetter near the red sea cost where there are beautiful beaches for tourism.
8: Government Eritrea's government is much like ours. They are manly democratic and vote for a president who is head of all states and government. | Executive Branch- In this branch, the President chooses certain people to govern different authorities such as agriculture, education, justice, health, trade/tourism and local government. Legislative Branch- In this branch there are 64 appointed members and 40 central committee of the "People's front for Democracy and Justice." This branch sets up government polices and elects the president. Before Democracy, this branch was the strongest and had the most power in the state. Judicial Branch- This branch operates independently and has three different heads,Community courts, Regional courts, and National High Courts. The Community Courts can only operate in a specific area, out side of this area there rules aren't relevant. Generally the chosen village leader must talk to an outside village leader to try and resolve any problems.
9: Recent News Recently Eritrea has been accused of planning a terrorist attack on their neighboring country. During an international conference in Ethiopia, a car bomb that would cause massive casualties was blamed on Eritrea. After Eritrea won its independence from Ethiopia in 1993, the two shortly were at war with each other ones again. this is why authorities claim Eritrea was the ones who planned the deadly bomb.
