S: Hawaii 2012
FC: PARADISE | Oahu, Hawaii 2012
The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page. St. Augustine
We were moved beyond words at Pearl Harbor. The beauty of paradise and the remnants of war remind us of how fragile freedom is. | MAY GOD MAKE HIS FACE TO SHINE UPON THEM | AND GRANT THEM PEACE
We visited the USS Missouri as well. According to our tour guide "Just Ed", the Missouri and the Arizona serve as the bookends as well as the Alpha and Omega of the war...okay? His jokes were not that funny, but watching Joe count the number of times Just Ed said "okay" was. In case you're wondering, 236 times between Pearl Harbor and the hotel... Okay?
We mourned the loss of life at the Arizona Memorial, but we rejoiced in the spirit of victory aboard the USS Missouri.
 Laie Point
 Polynesian Cultural Center
The Spitting Cave of Portlock There was no marked path to get here, but this cave was truely a hidden gem.
 The Halona Blowhole
Makapu'u Lookout This hike was much longer than the 1 1/2 miles listed on the sign. The hike was rough, but the view was almost worth it.
 Germaine's Luau
Wiamea Valley was beautiful. The waterfall was running more than normal so swimming out to it was not an easy task. It took three attempts, but we finally made it.
 Byodo-In Temple
We snorkeled in Shark's Cove and it was amazing. We saw a huge variety of fish and we even saw a sea turtle! After our snorkel we went to Matsumoto's Grocery for some legendary shave ice. There is a reason it is considered the best on the island!
