BC: A look back at Santa Fe

FC: New Mexico July 2011

Santa Fe Architecture | Adobe walls, flat roofs, and smooth arches. Cool blues, rich earth tones, and shades of rose are typical of the old New Mexico City of Santa Fe.

Chile peppers and window boxes. Sculpted windows and blue skies.

Intricate hand-made shapes and forms. Bright sun and interesting shadows.

Madrid is Cool Madrid, 20 miles south of Santa Fe, once a ghost town, now a very "artsy" kind of place where old and new mingle to produce a very laid-back kind of life-style.

Nature rules in Madrid where the old is made new again and the earth responds with natural beauty.

They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It is also in the lens of the camera. One only has to look closer.

Old dogs and older buildings, quietly watching time go by.

Northern New Mexico Desolation and anonymity. Forgotten names and forgotten places.

From atop the Capulin Volcano one can see forever.

Elizabeth Town, or E-Town as it was once called when it was a thriving community of over 6,000 people.

Today there are but a few reminders of what once was.

Adobe-walled churches and missions dot the New Mexico landscape.

The subtle beauty of nature is all around.

Fort Union. Once proud guardian of the Santa Fe Trail. Cut deep into the earth, wagon wheel ruts can still be seen.

A lonely sentinel quietly peering towards the mountains.

The dry desert preserves the wooden framework, hand-hewn over 150 years ago.

From Fort Union to the Panhandle The Panhandle of West Texas was once a great cotton kingdom. Its faded remains lay scattered across the vast plains.

Homes of sharecroppers melt into the earth while tired old trees stand in silence.
