Departure Day !!!! August 18th, 2011 | Where we got on a KLM bus bound for Montreal Airport. In Montreal, we took a KLM plane to Amsterdam, then another to Barcelona. | Our trip started at the Ottawa train station | Because it was Callum's 5th Birthday, we got to go see the cockpit! | We each had our own TV and we could pick whatever movie we wanted! | Our Plane!

We landed at Amsterdam Schiphol airport, and took the train into Centraal Station. The trains had two floors! It was very busy so we stood for the ride, but it was only about 20 minutes. Then Mommy had a walking tour for us. We saw Dam Square, a big wooden shoe, and some beautiful gables on the buildings. And there are lots of people on bicycles here! | August 19th, 2011 | Amsterdam, The Netherlands

We were all very tired but we made it to the Flower Market! There were so many bright, colourful flowers! | The rust coloured house is the narrowest house in Amsterdam - only one window wide! | This is an old dungeon - you can still see the iron bars on the window....

After the walk around the canals and through the flower market, we were pretty tired. We had to pay to use a washroom, and then Mommy and Daddy bought us 'Frites et Sauce', which is french fries with mayonnaise. They come in a paper cone. We sat down on the main street to the train station and ate them and watched all the people go by. After lunch, we had to go back to Centraal Station to catch the train back to the airport. Next stop, Barcelona, Spain!

We were so tired when we got back to the Amsterdam Airport. Callum fell asleep in the waiting lounge and didn't wake up until we landed in Barcelona! He even slept through take off! We took a special airport bus from the airport to Placa Catalunya. Then we had to walk a block to our hotel. It was like an apartment with a little kitchen and everything! | Amister Apartments Barcelona, Spain | The View

We got up the in the morning and spent the whole day walking up and down La Ramblas, which is a long, wide street with a middle part where people can walk. We saw lots of cool buildings and stuff! | Lunch at Mickey's. Look how big the drinks are !! | Viceroy's Palace | August 20th, 2011

August 21st, 2011 | La Seu Catedral Barri Gotic | Aunt Nancy was on a trip to London and Paris but she was going to meet us in Barcelona for one night before we all got on the cruise! | Carrer Bisbe Bridge

Aunt Nancy met us, we had supper, and then decided we would go see the Magic Fountain at Montjuic in front of the Palau Nacional | We got to take the Subway there! It was a pretty cool show!

Today we took a half day driving tour of Barcelona. | August 22nd, 2011 | La Sagrada Familia designed by Antoni Gaudi | The Beach | View of Barcelona from Montjuic | Santa Maria del Mar

We went to Ciudad Cordonol for supper and had 'Tapas', which is a bunch of small dishes that everyone shares. | The last stop on our tour was Parc Guell, also designed by Antoni Gaudi. It was pretty cool! | Anytime we got too hot, we would find a fountain and cool down - Font de Canaletes on La Ramblas was our favourite! Especially because it always turned into a waterfight! | Interior ceiling

August 23rd, 2011 | Leaving the hotel to go to the ship | The Brilliance of the Seas | On the Port Bus | Getting on board !! | There's a kid's swimming pool!!!

August 24th, 2011 | The view from the top | We met our driver Olivier, and he took us to the Fort of Alban. It was built in 1557. | Next we drove to Nice, and went for a ride on the Carousel. | Port of Villefranche, France | We had to get off our big ship and into a smaller boat called a tender to get to the shore.

The next stop was St. Paul de Vence, a medieval village perched high on a mountaintop. | We also stopped at a confectionary where all the candy is made from real flowers! | Our last stop was Monaco - we saw some pretty cool cars there! Olivier showed us where the race cars start and some of the racetrack they drive on. | Instead of stopping somewhere for lunch, Mommy & Nancy bought a baguette and some croissants and we ate those - yummy!

August 24th, 2011 | Port of Livorno, Italy | Today, we met our driver Michael, who was taking us to see Pisa and Florence. The ship docked in Livorno, about 80 km from Florence. We were so excited to see the Leaning Tower of Pisa, and David too! | The Baptistry | The Cathedral

You can see how much it's leaning when it's next to the Cathedral. | A close up of the top of the Leaning Tower of Pisa | Gelato for breakfast!

After we left Pisa, we drove through the Chianti region to Florence. We stopped at San Miniato al Monte and saw a really pretty view of Florence below. | Olive trees | We had a really yummy lunch at Cucina Tuscana | The Basilica of Santa Croce has the tombs of lots of important people in it, like Michelangelo who painted the Sistine Chapel in Rome, and Galileo, the astronomer.

After Santa Croce, we walked around Florence. We saw the outside of the Duomo. Even though it looks like green and pink paint, it is actually made from a pink and green stone called marble. We also saw the huge statue of David, and the Ponte Vecchio. Afterwards, we ate more gelato, of course | Can you see Mommy on the bridge?

August 25th, 2011 | Port of Civitavecchia, Italy | Today we met our driver Luca for our tour of Rome and Vatican City, which really is a separate city! Our first stop was the Colosseum. | They redid some of the inside to show everyone what it looked like in 72 AD. | This is Kalina pretending to hold up the Colosseum...

After the Colosseum, we went to the Forum. This is Mommy sitting on a very old column. | Next we went to the Trevi Fountain. We all threw a coin in, so that means we'll be back one day! | At the Pantheon, Nancy and Kalina tried to put their arms around a column, but the columns are just too big! | This is a sunbeam shining through the ceiling of the Pantheon

The next stop was the Sistine Chapel (or the Sixteen Chapel as Kalina called it). Before you can go into the Chapel though, you actually go through the Vatican Museums and the Tapestry Room. We had Massimo showing us around - he was great! So many beautiful things! Unfortunately, we both fell asleep and missed most of it. | This was actually painted, not carved! | We didn't take pictures inside the Chapel, but Mommy bought a book and some postcards.

The dome of St. Peter's is so big, you can't see it if you are standing right in front of it. And you can't even see the people way up high on the inside! | 'La Pieta' by Michelangelo. He created this when he was only 25 years old ! | St. Peter's Square

Rome was so wonderful! Even though we fell asleep in the Sistine Chapel, we still loved the Colosseum and all the other cool stuff we saw! And so we ended an awesome day with...more gelato!!!

August 27th, 2011 | Port of Salerno, Italy | There was a heatwave in southern Italy so we stayed on the ship in the kid's club. Mommy, Daddy & Nancy went on a tour of the Amalfi coast. | Lunch in Ravello | Miniature village

Day at Sea | August 28th, 2011 | Today was a day at sea, so we spent time on the ship doing fun stuff like swimming and napping and playing in the kid's club! We loved the kid's club! | Port of Venice, Italy | August 29th, 2011 | August 30th, 2011 | Next on the itinerary was two whole days in Venice! The ship docked in the port and we walked to something called 'The People Mover' | It was sort of like a train on a bridge overhead that took us to a place called Piazzale Roma where we met our tour guide for a walking tour. | This is the view as the ship pulled in to Venice. Piazza San Marco is on the right.

Just hangin' out... | Gondola Parking | World Travellers | We were actually on the Traghetto but a Gondola is a Gondola!

Eating gelato in front of Scuola dei Calerghi (shoemakers guild) | We only saw the Basilica of San Marco from the outside. It was beautiful but there were so many people everywhere!

A nice lady gave us some bird seed to feed the pigeons in Piazza San Marco. | We went in to a mask store where they make masks for Carnival. So beautiful! | A gondola traffic jam!

Part of our tour was a Water Taxi ride through the Grand Canal. It was so much fun! Our guide named all the different buildings as we went past. it took more than an hour! | This is called the 'Bridge of Sighs' because people would take their last breath of fresh air before going to prison. It's being fixed and that's why it's blue all around.

We went under the Rialto Bridge which has lots of stores in it. | And Callum got to see a Garbage Boat (there are no roads in Venice for garbage trucks!) | But, the motion of the boat made Kalina very tired and she fell asleep....

August 31, 2011 | Port of Ravenna, Italy | Today was a beach day!! We walked from the ship to a ferry, took the ferry across the channel, and then walked to the beach. | Mommy got us chairs and an umbrella, while we checked out the water. | Sand Angels!

Family Portrait | Daddy threw Kalina in the water.... | ....and then threw Aunt Nancy in! | This beach was great for shell collecting!

The beach tired Callum out so much, he fell asleep at supper! | The beach had a playground and these cool plastic animals... | Aunt Nancy kept dunking Callum's head in the water - they had so much fun! | Our Ship

September 1st, 2011 | Port of Dubrovnik, Croatia | We got off the ship and Mommy & Daddy hired a Taxi Driver to show us around a bit. | We could see the island way out in the distance where Napolean had a castle.

The driver took us to the top of the hill where there is a War Memorial for the War of 1991. On the way up, we saw some donkeys drinking out of a bathtub! | After the tour, he dropped us at Pile Gate which is the gate to the old City.

We walked around the old city, had lunch, and then Mommy found this really cool place called Cafe Buza. We got to it by going through a small doorway in the Old City's wall. We even went swimming! We just took our clothes off down to our underwear, and jumped in the ocean! Right off the side of a cliff! | Callum made a friend.

We walked out of the old city and took the Cable Car to the top of the mountain, almost back to where our driver took us this morning. We've never been in a Cable Car before so that was fun!

September 2nd, 2011 | September 3rd, 2011 | We had two days at sea to get back to Barcelona so we did some fun stuff on the ship. | At Sea | A pretty view through the porthole | Say Cheese!

Daddy & Kalina went climbing on the rock wall. They put Daddy on the easiest one and Kalina on the hardest! But Kalina did it! She rang the bell at the top!! | Callum did some climbing too...

We shared a cabin with Aunt Nancy. Mommy & Daddy had a cabin next door. There was a door connecting our cabins so we could go back and forth. Kalina slept on the top bunk. Aunt Nancy & Callum slept on the bed on the bottom. | The man that tidied up our cabin everyday, started making these really cute animals out of towels for us. | Elephant and Waddles both got souvenir hats from Venezia!

September 4th, 2011 Barcelona, Spain | Barcelona | Sadly, the cruise was over. We got off the ship after breakfast, then took the port bus back into Barcelona, then took the Subway to our new hotel. We were all kind of tired so Mommy & Daddy suggested we go on a Bus tour. It was a bus with two floors! And everyone had these little earphones so they could hear the person talking. | We drove by some more cool buildings. | And a restaurant with our name on it!!

Callum and Kalina were pretty tired and fell asleep again... | Our hotel in Barcelona was called the 'NextTo'. It had an outside shower AND looked out at Antoni Gaudi's Casa Mila.

We walked by Casa Batlo on the way back to the hotel. | And we watched the sun set over Casa Mila from our terrace. | We did one last pigeon chase in Placa Catalunya.

September 5th, 2011 | Today we had to head back home after our European Adventure. We took the train to Barcelona Airport and then got on the plane for the long journey home.....
