How to Customize a Yearbook Template with Your School Colors and Logo

Creating a school yearbook that reflects your community’s identity doesn’t require professional design skills. With Mixbook’s 70+ customizable yearbook themes, school administrators, PTA leaders, and volunteer yearbook creators can quickly design a professional-looking yearbook and personalize it with their school colors, logo, and branding.

Instead of designing a yearbook from scratch, Mixbook lets you start with a ready-made yearbook template and easily customize every detail in the Mixbook Studio. With just a few simple edits, you can transform a theme into a yearbook that feels uniquely connected to your school.

In this guide, we’ll walk through how to customize a yearbook template using your school colors and logo.

Why Customize Your School Yearbook Template?

Using a yearbook theme saves time, but customization helps your book feel authentic to your school community.

When you customize your yearbook template, you can:

  • Match your school’s official colors
  • Add your school logo or mascot
  • Create a more cohesive and professional design
  • Reinforce school pride throughout the book

The best part is that these edits only take a few minutes and can dramatically improve the look of your finished yearbook.

If you’re just getting started with your yearbook program, Mixbook’s dedicated yearbook team can also help guide you through the process—from design to ordering. Schools can easily request a quote to get connected with a specialist who understands school yearbooks.

Step 1: Prepare Your School Logo for Upload

Before you begin designing your yearbook, make sure your school logo is ready to upload.

For the best print quality:

  • Use a .PNG file
  • We recommend a high resolution image
  • A transparent background works best for placing logos on different page designs

Using a high-resolution logo ensures it prints clearly and looks polished throughout your yearbook pages.

Step 2: Choose a Yearbook Theme

Mixbook offers over 70 professionally designed and free yearbook themes to help schools get started quickly.

These themes provide a strong design foundation with:

  • Pre-designed layouts
  • Coordinated fonts
  • Decorative elements
  • Structured page designs

When you select a theme and open it in the Mixbook Studio, you can customize every element to match your school’s branding.

Think of the theme as your starting point — everything can be edited.

Step 3: Upload Your School Logo to Mixbook Studio

Once you’ve opened your theme in the studio, the next step is uploading your school logo.

Here’s how:

  1. In the left-hand tray, select “Stickers.”
  2. Find the option to Upload Stickers.
  3. Click Upload and select your logo file.
  4. Your logo will appear in the sticker tray.

From there, simply drag and drop the logo onto any page in your yearbook project.

Many schools add their logo to:

  • The yearbook cover
  • Section divider pages
  • Page headers or footers
  • The back cover

This helps reinforce your school’s identity throughout the book.

Step 4: Change Background Colors to Match Your School

One of the easiest ways to customize your yearbook template is by updating the background colors.

To change a background:

  1. Open the Background tab in the editor.
  2. Select the background element on the page.
  3. Choose a new color using the color wheel.

If your school has specific branding guidelines, you can also enter the exact HEX color code to match your school colors perfectly.

Using consistent colors across your yearbook creates a cohesive design and strengthens your school branding.

Step 5: Update Font Colors to Match Your School Branding

Next, update your text colors so that titles, captions, and headings match your school colors.

To edit font colors:

  1. Click on a text box within your yearbook page.
  2. Editing tools will appear on the left side of the screen.
  3. Select the font color option.
  4. Choose a new color or enter your school’s HEX code.

This simple adjustment helps tie the entire yearbook design together.

Step 6: Customize Sticker Colors

Many of Mixbook’s design elements and stickers are also customizable.

To update a sticker color:

  1. Click on the sticker placed on your page.
  2. A toolbox menu will appear.
  3. Select the color option.
  4. Choose a color that matches your school palette.

This allows decorative graphics and design elements to blend seamlessly with your school colors.
