Editor Tip: Changing Themes Within a Project

Imagine the following scenario. Mom’s birthday is coming up and you’ve decided to make a photo book for her birthday present. It’ll be quick and easy since Mixbook already has the perfect Happy Mother's Day by 1canoe2 theme that you can easily turn into a birthday present. However, as you start gathering photos, you begin to realize that an even better photo book could be made if you could just pull layouts from the Favorite Recipes Cookbook by Molly Hatch theme (to include her favorite recipes) and even the Milestone Birthday Memories theme to include milestone birthday layouts. If only you could seamlessly change from one theme to another!

It's a good thing Mixbook is one step ahead and has already implemented this feature! With a few clicks of your mouse, you’ll be able to switch from a Mother’s Day theme to a Recipe Cookbook and beyond!

Here's how.

Begin by choosing our Happy Mother's Day by 1canoe2 photo book (or any photo book you’d like). Once your project is open in the editor, we’re ready to start customizing your photo book.

How to Change Mixbook Photo Book Themes

Locate the Theme button at the top of the Editor, next to the teal Share button.

Scroll through the category of themes available until you locate the theme you would like to use. We’ll be switching over to a recipe theme, so we’ll click on Recipe/Cookbooks and then our chosen theme in this case: Favorite Recipes Cookbook by Molly Hatch. Click on the desired theme and then click CHANGE THEME.

Once you have clicked the button, the following confirmation should be displayed:

Once you have clicked “Okay” and the X at the top of the window, you will be allowed to make changes in the Editor once again. If you take a look at your pages you will notice that all your pages look the same —what did you do wrong? Absolutely nothing! When changing themes within the Editor, the new themed pages are not automatically added to your book. Instead, they are all available under layouts, backgrounds, and stickers under their respective “Theme” selections.

To see these new theme assets better, you can filter your layouts, backgrounds, and stickers by the “Theme” options:

Filter each of your layout, background, and sticker tabs to “Theme” so you can see all your new theme’s assets.

You can either replace the existing pages with a new layout or add some pages to your project. The following two screenshots show what happens when the sample Mother’s Day page layout is replaced with one from the recipe book:

Before

After

As you can see above, the new layout replaced the art on the right page with the recipe layout. On the left side, the new layout kept three of the four original photos and added in a new sticker. If you replace a page with a new layout, the new layout photo boxes overwrite your existing photo boxes. As we just showed, the fourth photo was removed and placed back in your photo tray.

We hope that this has been very helpful and will help you create the perfect gift for your mom—or whoever may be lucky enough to receive a Mixbook from you!

Happy Mixbooking!
